I know first hand what it is to be stalked by a leopard. I went to the zoo one day for advertising relations to get their ad in the paper where I worked. I talked to their PR Director and afterward she said I could go take a free stroll in our zoo. So I did and went in and walked around quickly. I had to get back to the office. I soon came upon the leopard enclosure and I saw a pair walking in the far corner of the large enclosure.
I have watched documentaries before where Gazelle (Deer) make a whistling sound
so I tried that, wrong idea, I got the attention of one leopard. This leopard looked at me and took two steps toward me, watching me, his eyes narrowing. The other leopard, she was minding her own business. This leopard, he stooped and crouched low and started stalking me all there was between me and him was what looked like a chicken wire cage.
I froze, I prayed, I hoped that the freaking chicken wire cage would hold. And then the leopard charged at me. I closed my eyes i think, don't know. Time froze, time stopped. I opened my eyes and looked. The large cat was nowhere to be seen. The cage wire had held and the leopard had stopped. But I saw and experienced its raw power, its speed, whew, 70 miles in under 6 seconds they say on documentaries.
I saw and felt its power. I understood what it meant, I barely could not move a step. It was near me from the far end of the enclosure in just under three seconds. That's the speed our Almighty God, the Creator has given the Leopard. Wow. I went back shaky legged to my office. I am so, so glad the cage held up. Otherwise, I would have been leopard chow, that is an experience in my life that I will never forget.
And the scariest part (or funniest as you might see the narration of this episode) is being a weekday there were no people in the Zoo, no families, well maybe a few families but none near my area. It was just me and the leopard. I could not even call for help if the chicken wire cage had not held. I am glad I am alive to write this and share my experience with you. I remember that even to this day.
Thank you God.
