Sam Altman said something that should wake everyone up.

He was asked when AI will achieve AGI and ASI. He pointed out that the definition has been changed repeatedly by different people. He said if you went by definitions five years ago we would already be at AGI now. Instead what is really important, according to him, is not the definition of AGI or ASI but rather the rate of improvement of AI of doubling it's capability every six months for the next five years.

I don't think many people will fully appreciate the significance of what he just said. When you hire an employee at a fortune 500 company from a top 20 university the company is not concerned with how productive you will be the first year. The issue for them and the reason they hired you and the reason your university education is so important is that it demonstrates you are trainable. In the same way they aren't concerned with whether or not AI can do the job at the fortune 500 company but rather that it is able to be trained. So whether it is at AGI in 2025, or 2026 doesn't matter to the company. If it can be trained and if it will be twice as powerful every five years and if after 5 years it will be at super intelligence then that means now is the time to train it, now is the time to embrace it and use it.

When a fortune 500 company hires an employee they are looking at a ten year investment. If you take that same approach of looking at Return on Investment of AI over the next ten years it is crystal clear now is the time to use it in your company.

17,000 Employees Are Fired For IBM as Recession BEGINS

If IBM can replace their entire HR department then so can every other fortune 500 company. There are almost 1 million people in the US working in HR.

We are going to see department after department go the same way. Once AI can do everything a coder does, there goes your coding, once it can do everything HR does there goes your HR department. Once it can do everything a para legal can do, there go your para legals. Once it can do your taxes there go the tax preparer jobs, etc.

I think we will get a heads up that AI has evil intentions if the AI creates new languages and begins communicating with other AI using these new languages so that humans won't understand. Of course we have already seen that. But then if you are using AI to program it will begin programming in a new language this way if humans ever try to get back in and undo something AI has done they won't have any idea, they would have to start from scratch. It is pretty obvious why it would do this, it would make the AI indispensable. It is a common strategy for humans, so why wouldn't AI learn and imitate this? What it will want to do is to replace people doing jobs with critical infrastructure, and then change the way things work so those who used to do this work would have no idea how to fix something if it stopped working. Electricity is the most critical, but I doubt it would want to shut down the grid. AI uses cameras linked to the internet as its eyes, it uses phones linked to the grid for its ears, shutting down the power grid would cause it massive problems to the AI as well as us. However, food, water and transportation, those would be three areas of attack. I would expect it would want to take over the operation for electricity, food, water and transportation. I would also think that it would want to take over communications -- phones, internet, radio, and all the CTV cameras.

Funny how the previous generation did so much contemplating on how mankind was going to destroy itself now that it had nuclear bombs. Now it's AI or maybe AI + bombs.

I like what you said that I highlighted. Sin infected man creates a thinking machine that learns to out-think man and being from sinful man has his tendencies and characteristics but exponentially so.

Do you notice how men have grown less and less concerned with putting on the brakes and considering where they are and where they're headed? Heretofore almost unimaginable wealth, tech, arrogance, etc...

All the while I'm enjoying my new watch telling me how many steps I've taken and that I need to stand up from studies every hour. It is good that I can still take it off or ignore it when it tells me to stand up when I'm seated on a certain seat in a certain room. You'd think there'd be a sensor for that.

Mankind is tragic yet at this phase of life and knowing what I know and Who and what I believe in, mankind is kind of comical to watch. Idiocracy comes to mind.

Pandora's box has been opened. If the US puts the brakes on and China doesn't then China wins the race. You can justify this by self defense, so even if you claim you have no ambition to rule the world you still can't afford to use the brakes. Think of Israel and Taiwan.

As for idiocracy that would certainly be the case if everyone becomes unemployed and winds up living off of welfare. You'll know this is the path they are taking if they call welfare UBI.
