peep and mutter...that scripture is shown where the witch called up Samuel.

Do not even go there enow. You cannot be in worship to the King of Kings, Our Lord Jesus Christ...and be calling on the dead for He lives forevermore.

vain repetitions of the heathen: Gospel Chapel sermons are a free Christian resource including sermons, sermon notes, a daily devotion, and audio sermons

~The heathen used vain repetitions in their prayers that were more showy than valuable. Let's look at an example of how the heathen used vain repetitions.
We find that in 1KI 18:26, "And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made."
This was their whole prayer before Baal: "O Baal, hear us, O Baal, hear us." They used that vain repetition from morning until noon. Repetition, repetition. There was no answer. They leaped upon the altar. They put on a show; they put on a scene, and they kept crying, "O Baal, hear us."

could you please tell me what repetition is from the Hebrew ?

I'm not sure which word it would be CS1. It's battologia in greek but is only found that one time in the Old Testament that I posted.

1Kings 18:26

and it should not be Greek because it was Hebrew writing :)

H6030
עָנָה
‛ânâh
aw-naw'
A primitive root; properly to eye or (generally) to heed, that is, pay attention; by implication to respond; by extension to begin to speak; specifically to sing, shout, testify, announce: - give account, afflict [by mistake for H6031], (cause to, give) answer, bring low [by mistake for H6031], cry, hear, Leannoth, lift up, say, X scholar, (give a) shout, sing (together by course), speak, testify, utter, (bear) witness. See also H1042, H1043.

? this is where they say hear us.

I feel a bit stupid for this...

called:

~H7121
קָרָא
qârâ'
kaw-raw'
A primitive root (rather identical with H7122 through the idea of accosting a person met); to call out to (that is, properly address by name, but used in a wide variety of applications): - bewray [self], that are bidden, call (for, forth, self, upon), cry (unto), (be) famous, guest, invite, mention, (give) name, preach, (make) proclaim (-ation), pronounce, publish, read, renowned, say.

vain repetition because they were saying the same thing from morning to noon.

The article I posted is saying that in 1Kings they were using vain repletion similar to the take heed warning in Acts not to do that.

They were calling on Baal from morning to noon.

It's vain because they are calling on a god which isn't a God. And Elijah makes fun of them.

Why question it? Do you see something different?

*accidentally hit the underline and can't get it off* grrrr...

this is not tongues nor would it be applied to what happened in Acts or 1cor chapter 12,13, and 14 :)

This is how the pagans pray...vain repetition. No god...just stone, wood, whatever.

It's not the same thing as tongues. Tongues is spiritual language. I don't repeat the same words over and over. Am sure others don't either.

vain repetition is not tongues :) nor is that what was happening they were speaking in a language that they understood and just said it over and over again thus "repetition " it does not say they spoke in an unknown tongue that is not contextual

Oh, I see why the confusion. The article used the word scripture in Acts.

I was just posting what vain repetition and peep and mutter mean't.

Where is the scripture about vain repetition? I couldn't find it? That's why I used that article.

Matt 6 :7 Jesus was speaking about when you pray

Matthew 6:5-8
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

7But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

I was responding to this post....and to Enows post where it used the word peep and mutter.

Trying to define them.

I never said this had to do with tongues.

no problem I'n not getting on you , please do not think that I'm. I am also reading what he has posted . and the context clearly is not about speaking in tongues or an unknown language which is the suggestion. one can think that but it is not supported by the text. this why some have to use books and writings of witches because the Word of God does not say what they want it to say . very sad thing that a person would have to use false and demonic books made by witches and youtube false teachers to support the gifts of the Holy Spirit is of the devil. and those who speak in any tongue they do not approve of is a devil and demon possessed . yet claim to be edifying LOL
