#3. The Greatest Faith Ever Know . Ousler Armstrong....finished by His daughter after his death. Takes up after Jesus and depicts the epistles in story form. Hard to find but I have both copies.
#4. Jesus Calling series . Sarah Young.
 
Almost anything by C.S.Lewis. He can say, in a few well-turned phrases, what most writers struggle to explain in pages and chapters. Most people know his Narnia series but there is so much more. His book "The Weight of Glory", has a particular chapter called "The Inner Ring", that I found compelling because I thought I was the last person to whom it would apply.
He used to meet with Tolkein and George MacDonald for a pint and pipe and they formed an informal group that called themselves the Inklings. That is the sort of group which I would have loved have belonged, and by belonged, I mean been allowed to hover on the periphery, and listen.
His work comes from a time when you could linger over a thought and had patience to read, think and turn ideas over in your (figurative) hand. It is rich, plain speaking with high impact. His book on grief is piercing. He does not spare himself in its telling.
There is much more but I would say that he has my respect.
 
I can vaguely remember the condensed book of East of Eden by Steinbeck. As I haven't read the whole book and its been a while, I cannot remember much, but theres something abt forgiveness, perseverance, and overcoming the enemy.. Maybe I ought to find it again. Other good books mentioned already=).
 
Within Heaven's Gates by Rebecca Springer … a glorious vision she had while in a coma (on audio book free online) also
23 Minutes in Hell by Bill Weise … just the exact opposite of above, a horrific depiction of hell (he's a conservative)

The Ark on Ararat by Tim La Haye & John Morris …. a young Armenian boy actually kissed the Ark
China Cry by Nora Lam …. one of the most amazing miracles in her story

There's just so many. I can't list them all. But I'll start here:
1. Charles Spurgeon, "Treasury Of David"
2. John Piper, "Future Grace"
3. Timothy Keller, "Prayer"
4. AW Tozer, "Attributes Of God"
5. John MacArthur, "The Gospel According To God"
 
I have a religious library of over 300 books - some theological school stuff, others various topics and monographs. I gain from a lot of them but have learned to 'filter out' some of the doctrines that I don't believe are accurate. Some of my favorite authors are Greg Boyd, Bruxy Cavy, Malcolm Smith and David Bercot. Then, of course, for a spiritual butt-kicking there is always A.W. Tozer!
 
One of my all time favorites are

"The Mark of the Lion Series" by Francine Rivers - I have owned so many of the trilogy and I keep re gifting them because I want literally EVERYONE to read them!
book1 "A voice in the Wind"
book2 "An echo in the Dark"
book3 "As sure as Dawn"

the only problem for me is I get so sucked into those books I won't emerge for weeks. (And I won't dedicate time to the Lord - so I kinda had to limit myself when I read them - Now I just have them on audible and can listen while getting ready for work or cooking - that way I still spend time in the bible. xD JUST A FAIR WARNING) Oh also - you'll need a box or two of Kleenex.

My other all time favorite is
"KISSES FROM KATIE" by Katie Davis.
It's a true account of how as an 18 year old - Katie surrendered to God her life and how living by faith and trusting that one good act at a time could impact the world - he lead her to do incredible things. Also: Need Kleenex.

"UNASHAMED" by Chris Caine is a book about letting go of shame. It was a game changer for me.

"Life of the Beloved" by Henry Nouwen - Oh man - this Gem is amazing... It was so different than I expected and I think that the theology in it - it really hit a mark in my soul.

"Practice His Presence" - by Brother Lawrence - a Devotional/ Journal entries of this monk on his way to be consumed and aware of God's presence at all times of the day... And how it impacted him.

OH DO YOU EVER NEED KLEENEX!!! It's a gripping fictional story of a Jewish family during WW1 - WW2 and the aftermath of piecing their family back together.

"The thirteenth Tale" by Diane Setterfield
A real moody novel which is gripping - especially if you like stuff like Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre and so on...

There are literally so many books that I could list here... And not stop haha

I remember reading this book called Pills for the Soul? by Dieter K Muller and it really changed my life and helped me see I could overcome what I was facing through Christ.

I got in touch with the author and am forever grateful he wrote it.

(Does that sound like what you've read Jesus say? Me either.)
