I'm not talking about dating non-Christians. I'm talking about bringing non-Christian based teachings into the church.
J was once invited to attend a church service which part of it was to remember a gentleman we love who had passed away. Now most of the preaching was dedicated to a study of what the pastor had been covering for a while. The subject was on what ladies should look for in a man for a potential date. He had at least ten (There may have been more) points he had and he spoke about each point. On these points, only two I could mildly relate to the Bible. One being related but I'm not sure if it could be missquoted or not, and the other could only be approximately round about scripture related. All the other points were not only worldly related, but advice that I would never want to give to anyone anywhere as it relates to not looking outside ones social class. Now the area where the church was is a traditional farming area. His outlook was to teach the ladies not to date anyone who is not wearing a clean ironed shirt... I remember being gobsmacked such antiscriptual teaching was being taught in the church and he must have seen my face. He then started saying how qualified he was to teach in the pulpit and how he had a degree in public speaking and studied for many years (All of which are totally irelivent points to bring up regarding the subject he was teaching on).
Now the collection came along and as I didn't expect it at the time the collection bowl moved quicker then I was ready. Now for a good few months I had no income so I didn't have much. I took a pound or two and approached the pastor. He was chatting to a church member. When I said I have money for the collection box he suddenly perked up and stopped chatting (I only wanted to slip it in his box) and went to see what I had. When he saw it was not a lot, he gave me a look and walked off!
Now I don't care how many qualifications your pastor has. If you hear such antiscriptual preaching ignore it. Learn what the Bible says for yourself. Never look for a man basing your criteria on his income, his clothes and riches and how successful he is (And same for a man looking for a lady) as I will tell you, you will be very dissapointed and miss out on the right person for you. God could indeed send someone rich or poor. If you are looking at social status you will be well dissapointed and also risk following a false gospel as the status and riches have become your god.
