John the baptist was Elijah/Elias
Only figuratively, but in the spirit and power of Elijah. But when asked point blank whether he was Elijah, he said "NO".

And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No. (John 1:21)

This is the correct interpretation as confirmed by John 1:21:
And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.

It was not given to John the Baptist to Know what spirit was in him. John answered this way, because he did not know the Truth concerning this. Jesus knew though. Jesus knew that the spirit of Elias was in John the Baptist. That does not make John the Baptist Elias, therefore John answered correctly. The Spirit that is in you, has its own name, and resided in Heaven prior to the Earth ever being created. The spirit that is inside of you is one of the 2/3rd that did not rebel against God. And is now here being tested to see to whom you will follow. You will either Love One Another and be accepted into Heaven, or you will fail to Love One Another and will not be accepted into Heaven. Those who believe in Jesus AND Love One Another are ONLY those who will be accepted by Jesus on Judgement Day.

Sorry Disciple Dave but this is BIZARRE doctrine. Did you derive it from Mormonism or Gnosticism? Unless you can provide solid biblical support for this, it had no value.

BTW, since the actual Elijah (who met Christ at the Transfiguration) will literally come to earth before the Day of the Lord (as prophesied by Malachi) John the Baptizer -- himself the greatest prophet as proclaimed by Christ -- was not at all mistaken when he denied that he was Elijah. Elijah will indeed come.

Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse. (Malachi 4:5,6).

What is it to me if it has no value to you? i did not derive it from any person. i was told this from God, when He told me what Happened in Heaven, and why we are all here. For more information on what He told me read this article by clicking HERE.

Jesus said that John the Baptist was Elijah. Do you agree or disagree with Jesus?

Elijah lived as a Prophet in the Old Testament. John the Baptist was Elijah according to Jesus. Is it than a strange thing that Elijah will again return in the future? NO.
