(right before the verse you mentioned)

For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.

9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

_______

this is about not being tainted by false doctrine more than not showing love to someone who does not yet have the truth

theres a difference also between brother/sister

neighbor

enemy <- need to be weary
do not aid in their efforts to steer people from the true gospel

10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

Profitable in the sense, after Onesimus's conversion to Christianity, he'd return to Philemon as a brother in Christ. Rather then an unprofitable run away slave

The letter is about slave and mater, but the slave returns as a brother.

Slavery was just as common in the Roman empire ; as people being indebted to a banks today .
It was not a racial thing back at that time . It was the rule . If you got in trouble with a debt or to whoever, the only way out of it was through servitude .Being a slave. It was the law .

Regardless we're all slaves when we enter this world. So you should focus there, seeing that
Paul converted Onesimus while he was away from Philemon ; and he was working with Paul to further the gospel .

Col 4:9 With Onesimus, a faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They shall make known unto you all things which are done here.

Paul converted also Philemon the slave owner . Paul is acting as a intermediate between them both to settle the debt . And have Onesimus return .

To Philemon ; Onesimus was braking the law. And was costing him time and money .

So again Paul is writing a heart felt letter to accept him back as a brother, profitable for furthering the kingdom of God. .

TO: Devin02 Your question about 2 John verse 9

2 John

9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.
10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

Theres a lot of evil in the world already ; why would we help enable evil further ?

And its really a warning, which can have life or death consequences . Referring to the state of ones soul, and what damage false teachings can do to a person over time .

You wouldn't wish God speed to a drug dealer tearing up your friends and family ? likewise, don't wish God speed to people that muddy Gods Living Word, to where people can Not find freedom from the this dark world .

Unless you're old enough, you wont really yet understand how dire straights the worlds currently in, and heading for spiritual calamity , until you've listened to God very carefully . Or do things the hard way . Many people have done it the hard way already ...

What happened to people in the old testament before Jesus came and died on the cross to take away our sins? Did everyone have to take the punishment of their own sins? Where in the old testament does it talk about things like this?

it was still by faith

id suggest Isaiah (for OT)

Hebrew chapter 11 sums it up quite well. Ever since Abel, people were justified by grace through faith. That is still the basis of justification.

To: Devin02 :

The New covenant is opened to all. Whosoever will believe. No matter your background . John 3:16. etc
Bible says, that Jesus went to paradise on the side of the "gulf " ; example:
to the side the Rich man was on ;( The parable of Lazarus and the Rich man )
and offered salvation to them too, allowing them to cross the divide to the side of Eternal life.
Luke 23:43 ; 1 Peter 3:18-20 kjv .

In the OT, Israel atoned for sin according to the Old Covenant; written in parts of the OT .
You must read the Bible to understand fully how that worked.

But what happened to all those, who died before getting the chances to accept Christ and repent simply by believing and faith in Him ? Well Christ offered Salvation to those that died before that fact, also . To all the world that died, not just Israel .

Excuse me OtherWay, but that is not what the event of the rich man and Lazarus says.

When Jesus died his spirit departed and went down into sheol/Hades, but to that side where Abraham and Lazarus were, which Abraham called a place of comfort i.e. paradise. The rich man, on the other hand, went to that place across from Abraham and Lazarus and was/is in torment in flame. Jesus did not preach to the rich man any of those on that side offering them salvation. In fact, if you will read the scripture, you will see that the rich man asked Abraham to send Lazarus to his father's house to warn his five brothers so that wouldn't come to the same place of torment as him.

Once a person dies in their sins, their record is sealed and there is no second chances. If what you said was true and people in Hades in torment were given a second chance to repent and believe, then there would definitely be no one in Hades and no one going to the lake of fire. Who being tormented in extreme flame would not hesitate to repent in order to get out of that place? The opportunity for salvation is now, while we are still alive. Once a person dies that's it, no more options.

Ahwatukee you should study ( the bible ) further and allow the scriptures to speak for themselves.
You should notice, we are talking about the people that died ( before ) the new convent was in effect...
I'm not going to argue about what scriptures plainly teach in Full...

As I have made know, I have studied it for over 40 years. The information that I am giving you is supported by scripture. The people who died prior to Christ do not did not and do not have the option of salvation. To be clear, that rich man is still in Sheol/Hades in torment in flame at this present time.

Please show us where in scripture that it states that people who have died have the opportunity of salvation. Here is just one of the proofs that there is not opportunity to be saved after death:

"So he cried out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. For I am in agony in this fire.’ "

"But Abraham answered, ‘Child, remember that during your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things. But now he is comforted here, while you are left to suffer."

So, in the scripture above, the rich man could not be comforted with water from Lazarus and as Abraham said, he received good things while Lazarus received bad things and the rich man was left to suffer. The rich man did not have the opportunity to repent and be saved after death. He remains there until this very day where he will be resurrected at the end of the millennial period and will stand before God at the great white throne to be judged.

I repeat, the opportunity of salvation and eternal life is now, while you are still alive. Once a person dies without faith in God, either prior to Christ or after, their record is sealed and there is no second chance.

You should be very careful, because with what you are claiming, you are teaching something contrary to the gospel. As I said, if salvation was offered to those in Sheol/Hades who were in torment in flame, there would be one person who would reject the offer. Those of whom it was said that Jesus went to proclaim to the prisoners was most likely speaking of those angels who were sent to Tartarus, who sinned by taking human wives in an attempt to corrupt the Lord's blood line in order to announce to them that they failed in their attempt.

The Scriptures DO NOT plainly teach that anyone could cross over the gulf which divided the righteous dead from the unrighteous dead in Sheol/Hades. That is your own concoction.

Hardly anyone in these threads read the bible for themselves. I recommend you all do that.
Repeating tired old doctrinal lies, is bad. Instead finally read the bible yourself and recall at least some of it ... Stop giving Christians who actually want to read the bible a hard time. It's not becoming of someone claiming the title Christian ..............

I don't know why you would assume that I am not reading, when I am here at my desk every day reading and studying scripture, which is why I am sharing this information with you. Also, I am not giving anyone a hard time, but am contending for the truth when I see false teachings, which is what you are teaching.

What you are preaching that there is a second change for salvation after death, is not the gospel of Christ and is a false hope! Scripture states that "man is once to die then comes the judgment." There is no second chance after death for anyone then and now.

You would do well not to teach this and to repent of it.

Mat 15:13 But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Mat 15:14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

Ahwatukee You need to study scripture and not judge others .

The judgment that you are speaking of is condemning judgment, which I have not done nor have I ever. But, I do make judgments based on scripture and contend, correct and rebuke when I see false teachings, which is what we should be doing, that is, contending for the truth.

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work. "

I am simply correcting you by pointing out your teachings and contending for the truth.

Don't correct me because you don't know what you're talking about .
I wish there was some way to block other users in this forum ...................

You know for someone saying to study the scriptures and not judge others you seem to think yourself innocent of this. You just assume people don't read and study the bible because they disagree with you. The fruits of the spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. What I see from you arrogance and a I am right and everyone else is foolish and unlearned attitude you are quick to make accusations and then when called on it say you refuse to argue it and then you have the nerve to judgmentally quote scripture about the blind leading the blind not even realizing you are actually quoting yourself.

There is a reason that not all are to teach and especially one who acts like a know it all and makes rude and unreasonable accusations and then runs away. You need to humble yourself and stop trying to be the teacher because you are far from qualified
