I have heard preachers not understand the following concept, but it's a very important one. They taught that the imprecatory prayers of David do not apply in the OT and that God was more judgemental in the OT, but changed in the new. I don't agree with that misunderstanding.
I believe that the OT doctrines still apply today unless they are superceded by a new teaching that is clear in the subject. The NT actually confirmed that.
The OT was given for our admonition.

I don't believe that takes away God's judgement from nations and leaders who do evil. I am willing to tell the wicked about Christ, but do not want to befriend the Satanists who hate God or false preachers who send people to hell by deceiving others to believe a false gospel.
I just talked to a friend that I have warned about this a number of times. He gets a visit from a Jehovah's False Witness preacher until they became friends. He is so friendly that he thinks it a blessing to befriend those who are considered enemies of God. These would be those who Jesus Himself rebuked stronger than any OT prophet.
The epistles warn us constantly.

The Republicans passed the balance budget act in 97. They cut welfare and Medicare to get the budget balanced. As part of the deal to get Clinton to sign off on it the compromise was Clinton would get a win by removing restrictions for lower income folks to buy a home. The removed restrictions that directly led to the housing market blowing up in '08. Also with our whole financial system having to be bailed out.
I agree the debt needs to get paid down and we do need to balance our budget. As the interest paid on the debt is now the second largest line item after Social Security. However, there is no way I want another deal struck where 10 years down the road you have to do a bail out that far exceeds any savings you might have had. As well as transfer's more wealth into the hands of the few.
