We've heard this many times, a big store is opening up in the area and then there are fears of the little local family stores going out of business and then Walmart or whoever are dragged through the mud for crushing the little man.

Surely the blame is on the customer who chooses to stop using their local store and take them selves to the large store instead.

Yeah! Tracy and John were always good to me. They would let me take bread and milk and I could pay them next week when times where hard. But I don't care about tracy and John anymore because milk is 10 pennies cheaper in the big store!!!

Its a shame my local bookstore is closing! Been here for years!! Now where are those books I ordered from Amazon.

Is it really the fault of the big retailers? Or are smaller businesses closing just a casualty of the internet and cheap products?

It's hard to say I think, you'd have to study the mind of the consumer. There could be various reasons why one would abandon the little guy, convenience? Financial? Change of lifestyle? I think ethics unfortunately plays a smaller role in the decision making than it should. Don't think its primarily the big guys fault at the end of the day.
For example, I'd love to buy all vegetables organic, but they are considerably pricier than non organic, and having two children and a single income, its not feasible. But on the flip side, if more bought organic, it'd become cheaper.

it's an 'old strategy' to flood' another country with 'cheap-goods'.
the result is loss of jobs and through loss of jobs we have an increase in crime -
a 'domino-effect' - affecting all.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS - 'IF WE EXPORT JOBS, OUR ECONOMY IS GOING TO BOOM'.

and so the folly goes on and on and on........
