I would love to have a forum where we discuss different books, books other than the bible. Like "The Shack" for instance, great book. I would love to see how it changed other people's perspective.

Oh, now I would disagree. I think he's works are interesting but he also makes his characters weak to a fault...not what as Christians we should strive to be like... weak when it comes to selfish desires.. We are supposed to crucify the flesh not endorse it.

^I haven't read the books you are talking about, but on a general basis:
Sometimes it can be good to read about "weak" people
1) It can make you realize you are not alone (Everyone sins, even though we should not)
2) Maybe it can make one more aware of it, and then make it easier to avoid?
... but as I haven't read those particular books I don't really know what you mean by the characters being weak

I don't care for the book personally, I haven't read it because it seems to confuse Christianity. I feel it will confuse Christians and such. I think personally, we should stick to reading the Holy Bible because -it's a great book

The Shack, very much an influential book in today's culture. The very premise of the book is the doctrine of the Trinity. However, it is an outright misrepresentation of the doctrine and is heretical in it's statements and structure. One of the 10 commandments is to not make a graven image of God. What does this book do? It takes the invisible God and lower him to visible attributes.
You simply CANNOT take God, who is spirit and truth, and portray him in a physical element and get away with it. God the "FATHER" is shown to be a woman. That kinda changes Christianity and perverts it.
This book isn't even close to biblical Christianity. Also, look at how they portray the Trinity. It's modalism which is not biblical Christianity. God the father didn't die on the cross, Jesus did. God the father wasn't baptized, it was Jesus. Why should we support this book when it completely destroys and undermines the solid ground that we rest our faith in?

The book does no such thing, Papa even states in the book that she, he, it, is neither man nor woman, God portrayed himself as a woman, or mother, because Mack didn't really look up to his own father or see him as a good role model, at the end of the book God appears to him as a man.
But she also states in there plenty of times why she even appeared as human, it was because we could not begin to know or understand what God really looks like. And you're right, God was not baptized or any of that stuff, the Word was, which was Jesus. You're making it more than it is.

I'm a little confused at what you're talking about.. or what that has to do with Nicholas Sparks' books.. and being voulnerable is not a sign of weakness, it's when you cannot overcome and learn from your voulnerability that you become weak. I've never heard of anyone striving to be like anyone in his books.. maybe Jamie (or whatever her name was in A Walk to Remember).. but that character was based on his sister who died from cancer at a young age... I'm not really sure what you're point was though, it was a tad confusing. btw, we are all selfish at some point and we all have "selfish desires".

How would you know if it does or doesn't if you haven't read it?
You're right, Jesus is not a chick, and never claims to be in the book, (he is a human man bc he was the word that became flesh) you should deffinately read it, having opinions is a good thing, it's a good book all in all, whether or not you agree with the words written in it. The message that really stood out to me in the book is the message of love and simplicity. It's a book about God's love for everyone and God comes to Mack in a very calming way, by appearing to Mack as a woman, because a "father"-figure would probably have been a little hard for him to deal with because his father was never there for him.. (and also the book is about giving someone closure) But, to make a long story short the book itself is good and should be read for that simple reason. I mean if someone told you the world really IS flat, would you believe them? No, that would be silly to throw away all your beliefs (even though you yourself have never been to space) over one opinion..
I did love the Shack.I have several others I love including...The Oath(Frank Parretti),Steven James books,Ted Dekker's Showdown,Saint,and Sinner.House(both Frank and Ted).Mike Dellosso's books(loved his one called Scream)Andrew Klaven's Homelander's series.Randy Alcorns books(am soooooo looking forward top reading his new allegory called The Chasm)Robert Liparulo's books are riveting.Oliver North is a good writer...Alton Gansky is awesome.Hope Unseen is a great book.Eric Wilson is a great author and has written Jerusalem's undead trilogy...yeah a few of my favs lol.

Have any of you read books by Terry Goodkind? Or Terry Brooks?
Terry Goodkind writes like CS Lewis only I think it is better and for a more older teen. Each book he writes has a theme and without realizing it there are imbeded scriptures. You would not find them I can garentee the first time it's read. I found about 70 but I had to read the book about three times. His first book is called "Wizards First Rule". Now don't let that throw you off that it's not a christian based book because deep in it... it is.
Good look in your search for books.
