Does anyone know any good Christian books to read? I'm all over anything. Right now I'm reading Broken to Beautiful, and next up is the Shack...But I want to hear of some good lit to read.

Hey! Just want you to keep in mind that The Shack is fiction! It throws in some very controversial ideas...and actually made me quite upset!

Other than that..are you interested in Christian Thrillers?

If so, look up the authors Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti! They are wonderful!
 
I knew it was fiction...But controversial? I had no clue, I know my Aunt keeps wanting me to read it.

I really haven't read a lot of Christian books. And I'm willing to try anything, so I'll jot that down and head to the library. : ) Thanks!
 
IS there sci-fi or fantasy christian books out there? thats all I read really.
 
The Circle Trilogy by Ted Dekker (Black, Red White and soon to be Green) are characterized under fantasy, i think? They are pretty neat. Check em out?

ohh okay almost not a trilogy anymore...but yah know..
 
I am reading The Shack right now, and are you sure that it was a fiction? I read in the prologue that it was written based on someone's true experience, and the writer is being a ghost-writer only. And I don't know what makes you upset, but I am so into The Shack. It has taught me to be more open minded person about the characteristic of God and the meaning of Trinity. I've read The Visitation by Frank Peretti and that's even using more imagination than The Shack I think. Anyway if you are a woman, Captivating is the most Chistian book I've ever read up to now, but I am interesting in Ted. Happy reading ^o^V

Everyone will have their own personal experiences with books. One may find something upsetting, whilst someone else may find something funny....we are all unique in our emotions aswell as ourselves. God knows who we truly are and those emotions.

Yes it's Definitely a fictional story.
 
there are actually some really good ones out there.
C.S. Lewis's Narnia is always a classic though it is aimed more at children, he also wrote a science fiction series set in space
Chris Walley is one of my favorite Christian Authors, he wrote the Lamb Among the Stars series, it is AMAZING!! there are currently 6 books if i understand correctly but i think they have been paired into volumes of two at a time, so technically three right now.

Robert Liparulo is a really good christian who writes books. hes not well known and doesn't classify his books as Christian just so non Christians will be more likely to read them. He writes fiction thrillers... that are AMAZING! and might be made into movies!
 
I'll parrot the reccomendation of books by Ted Dekker and Frank Peretti.

For Ted Dekker books, "The Circle Trilogy" (Black, Red, and White) is awesome. It has a strong fantasy vibe but also mixes in thriller elements. "Thr3e" by Ted Dekker is great and so is "Obsessed."

The Visitation is a great Frank Peretti book. I also loved "Tho Oath."

As far as non-fiction goes, check out "The Irresistible Revolution" and "Jesus for President" by Shane Claiborne. Rob Bell did a couple great books in "Velvet Elvis" and "Sex God."

Right now I'm reading "Pagan Christianity"... It might be worth checking out but I haven't finished it so I can't give a full reccomendation yet.

"Stumbling Toward Faith" is a great autobiography by a girl who was abused by a father in a way that messed up her faith. One of the opening parts of the book tells about how her father would say the Lord's Prayer as he raped her. The book chronicles her journey back to God.

Mike Yaconelli's "Messy Spirituality" and "Dagerous Wonder" are good.

Mike Yankoski's "Under the Overpass" is anouther good autobiography about a period of time when the author chose to live as a homeless man so that he could see what people on the streets go through. Very Good.

Then, of course, there's Donald Miller. All his books are great. "Blue Like Jazz" and "Searching for God Knows What" are essays on spiritual topics. "Through Painted Deserts" chronicles his journey across America and has many interesting thoughts. Finally, "To Own a Dragon" is about his life growing up without a father and how that affected him and how it effects boys and men today.

As for "The Shack"... Haven't read it but I hope to so I can see what all the fuss is about... There is definitely some controversy surrounding it...

Anywho... enough of my yammering... Hope it helped a little...
 
Yeppers, Dekker and Peretti are good. I just read Skin and Monster. I have also heard rave reviews about House, which I just bought off of CBD I should be getting it soon. The Darkness novels by Peretti are pretty awesome.

I am currently reading Six who Changed the World by Henry Enoch Kagan. It's more Jewish-based than Christian, but whatever. Moses, Paul and Jesus are three of the six so it's Christian enough I guess.

all of Ben Carson's autobiographies
The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom
Dorie, the Girl Nobody Loved by Doris Van Stone

A couple classics:
Ben Hur
A Pilgrim's Progress

Some decent contemporary Christian authors:
Gilbert Morris (mostly historical and romance)
Frank Peretti (mostly thriller/sci-fi)
Ted Dekker (mostly thriller/sci-fi/inspirational)
CS Lewis (variety)
Kristen Heitzmann (mostly inspirational/romance)
Tracie Peterson (mostly romance)
Karen Kingsbury (mostly inspirational/romance)
Francine Rivers (mostly inspiration/romance/historical)
Brock and Bodie Thoene (biblical and historical fiction)

I don't know many good non-fiction authors, because I don't read much non-fiction.
 
House by Dekker and perettie is now a movie. i havent seen it yet and it recently came out.
and Thr3e by Dekker is also a movie which i havent seen
and Hangman's Curse by perettie is a movie, which i saw and i like it.
I really want to see Thr3e and House...but i would have to buy them and i dont have money
 
I didn't know House (the movie) was out already. I want to see it, but I still haven't read the book.
 
yeah it came out like November 2008. it never played near me so i didnt get to see it =/
but i read the book and saw the trailer and it looks awesome!
 
I saw the trailer. it looked interesting. I don't think it showed/is showing around here though, so I'll have to wait until it comes out on DVD to see it.
