"once for all" means "one for all time".

It does not mean once for all people...otherwise his death was not effective for those who are lost.

If you carefully study the context each time it is used, you will see that these references in Hebrews are comparing the temporary nature of the animal sacrifices, which never really atoned for sin anyways, with the once for all time sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross.

Read the verses surrounding these references, and you will see that this comparison is being made.

By the way, if anyone wants many verses proving limited atonement, I did a separate thread on this topic.

Here it is:

https://christianchat.com/bible-dis...atonement-biblical.187815/page-6#post-4096215

I am going to post this reply there as well.

So, if you adopt the free-willer view of the atonement, you are basically saying Jesus didn't atone for any person's sin, but he simply made atonement for their sin possible. It was not an actual atonement.

The Reformed view would be that Jesus actually atoned for all the sins of the elect, and earned for them every spiritual blessing that comes through union with Him.
Jesus did die once for all and it is up to us to act in faith to receive it, GAME OVER ..

Any more questions?

My position is solid and biblical.
Ephesians 1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

The us are already saved believers. He’s predestined the believer for what? The adoption of children. What’s the adoption of children?

Romans 8:23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

The adoption is the redemption of the believer’s body. It’s a future redemption. Pre = ahead of time and destination = final state. Once you’re in Christ, He then predestines you for the future redemption of your body, the adoption. Your future is certain. Your destination is set.

There's a cluster of free willers here who hate any view contrary to their own. Same thing with dispensationalists.

Some aren't cantankerous, but some are.

I don't really think much about their opinions of my position. The shadow boxing serves the purpose of exposing other more open minded people to the pertinent concepts.

oyster67 is actually one of the more civil ones, and fairly easy to refute. So I thank God for him :)

this is or possibly at this point was, a thread about being 'born again'

you selfishly took it over because your own threads are not going to be visited by those who want the truth

you also do not think much about the BIBLICAL version of salvation either it would seem

What would be the opposite of "freewiller" ? (And why do I keep seeing the movie marquee for Free Willy when I write that).
Robot? "Predestined Android" ?

We're getting a lot of "new" members of late who carry on the odd ideology of some oldies. Have you noticed this too?

LOL!

pretty fresh for telling others how to be nice

you are as believable as the rest of your crew :rolleyes:

since Calvinists are cessationists, it would seem you do not have the Holy Spirit leading you into all truth
What in the world are you talking about? Im a Calvanist? I have a crew? What is a cessationist?

JOHN 14 [15] If ye love me, KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS.[16] AND I WILL PRAY THE FATHER, AND HE SHALL GIVE YOU ANOTHER COMFORTER, that he may abide with you for ever;[17] Even THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.[18] I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.[19] Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.[20] At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.[21] HE THAT HATH MY COMMANDMENTS, AND KEEPETH THEM, HE IT IS THAT LOVETH ME: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I WILL LOVE HIM, AND WILL MANIFEST MYSELF TO HIM.

In order to receive the Holy Spirit we must first be keeping Gods 10 commandments. The 4th included. Thats what John 14{15-16} says. My question to you.... Did you keep the 10 commandments before you recieved .....

Nevermind. Already know the answer.

well. You must have skipped the whole first part of the NT
Jesus came because we could not keep his commands, and needed a savior.

because those same commands cursed us, because we could not keep them (the curse of the law)

Fret not, my friend. They are just giving us a pulpit from which to preach the truth from. We see that the Adversary is getting very desperate now. These men have lost all manner of subtlety and are running out into the street raw and naked, waaay overexposed. Not sure if they are fooling anyone.

2 Peter 2
2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast [them] down to hell, and delivered [them] into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
2:5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth [person], a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
2:6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned [them] with an overthrow, making [them] an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;
2:7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:
2:8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed [his] righteous soul from day to day with [their] unlawful deeds.
2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
2:10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous [are they], selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.
2:11 Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord.
2:12 But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;
2:13 And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, [as] they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots [they are] and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;
2:14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children:
2:15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam [the son] of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
2:16 But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbad the madness of the prophet.
2:17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever.
2:18 For when they speak great swelling [words] of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, [through much] wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
2:19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
2:20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known [it], to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
2:22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog [is] turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

John 3
3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
3:20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
3:21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
The Truth is all here. The Truth is easily seen. The liars and false teachers are easily exposed by the Truth of God's Word.

We see that nobody is predestined to go to Heaven or Hell.

v.17 shows us that God did not send His son in order to condemn anyone to Hell. Jesus came to Earth to make a way of escape. He wants us to CHOOSE to believe. He wants everyone to go to Heaven, but not everyone will choose to go there.

well cheese whiz

I musta done it wrong at the age of 18 when God filled me with His Spirit...you know? the whole speaking in tongues thing

that's a tough thing for a cessationist to hear

plus, I was saved at the tender age of 5 after hearing about Jesus in Sunday School...at salvation we are sealed with the Holy Spirit

no one is good enough to receive what God gives

THAT'S what I'm talking about Mr Wall. that's what I'm talking about

your interpretation regarding keeping the commandments is bizarre.

I definitely had not murdered anyone or committed adultery or lusted after my neighbor's donkey or what have you at the age of 5

like Jesus said, suffer the little children to come to me

you twisters of the word make it about impossible for someone to accept Christ with your Pharisaical version of the gospel

God is better, bigger and far more capable than the weights you put on people

if a person cannot keep the law before being saved and you say God gives His Spirit to those who keep the law, how is anyone EVER going to be saved

I would also thank you not to attempt to make it seem I said something I did not say

I said NOTHING about not respecting or believing ANY part of scripture

however, your understanding is not correct

NO ONE has ever kept the law which is why Christ had to die on our behalf to begin with

Christ gave other commandments...when we commit to follow Him, we have the indwelling Holy Spirit to enable us to live a life that is pleasing to God

kindly do not jump to conclusions about what I or anyone else here believes. you have posted some confusing thoughts on your own beliefs; they are not in accordance with scripture

NO ONE is saved by keeping commandments

it is scary that some people have the most basic of biblical doctrines so skewed that they just might as well read everything backwards

this regeneration thing before salvation can be possible that hyper Calvinists believe is beyond being mixed up...it is actually 'another gospel' and 'another Jesus' and yet, as Paul states, they accept it so easily

For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully. II Corinthians 11:4

and now we have someone telling us we must first obey the commandments before receiving the Holy Spirit, which would indicate Jesus died for nothing since salvation is based on our ability to obey

yet all have sinned...ALL..so there goes that theory...false teaching actually

I used to think I knew most or many of the false teachings that abound, but this forum indicates there are far more and apparently are being created even as I type this

How we can be made alive before sin is cleansed is crazy, and has yet to hear a logical explanation

and Obey first? That’s like telling a person having a heart attack to get rid of blood clot before you come to the hospital
