There are many people out there who still have Christ nailed to the cross. Christ died and was resurrected, NOW HE SITS AT THE RIGHT HAND OF THE FATHER. Do not glorify the image of the cross, for that is idol worship.

Do not put your faith in the cross, for the cross did not die for your sins, the cross was not resurrected, and the cross did not abolish death. The cross is not your means of salvation...ONLY CHRIST! Do away with the images of this idol, bring Christ down from the cross!

I don't believe a cross is idol worship, at least not for most who wear one. It has been a while since I've owned a cross, but when I used to wear one it was because the symbol labeled me as a servant of Christ, and was a symbol of God's love for his children.

Just a different perspective on the cross I thought I'd share, can't say enough how right you are about idols.

I wear the EMPTY cross to remind me He rose (if he hadn't, it'd all been in vain)

With that argument:

Do people need the bible once they know what it says?
Do they need church once they know the message?

I am not saying that everybody who wears a cross is worshipping idols. I was just putting it out as a warning, to make people aware of how easy it is to fall in to idolism.

excuse me?

What is the difference between worshiping the cross and worshiping the bible?

I worship God (and Jesus) alone

I hear you and idol worship is always wrong. Placing the cross as an idol as well is wrong and you are correct as we all know we are not saved by the cross but by Jesus who chose the way of the cross to save us! It is the moment in His life that should always be remembered by us all. For any of us there is no new life until we die, in this life we choose to die and pick up our crosses and follow Jesus. Hours before the cross and with the full meaning of His words not understood Jesus said" this is my body given for you, do this in remembrance of me" Jesus tells us to carry our cross, He tells us to remember the cross He bore for us. I am a Michigan football fan and enjoy the moments some of the players have given me. One is Desmond Howards punt return against Ohio St. that went for a touchdown and he posed for the Heisman in the endzone I have that picture and smile when I see it. Since then Desmond has gone on to win a superbowl with an MVP and has been inducted into the college football hall of fame, that picture is a moment in a successful football career, it is not that moment that defines him but his life as a football player. With jesus and as poor an example Desmond is next to Him it is similiar, that moment the cross shook the Heavenlies and defeated the greatest thief there is death and made away for you and I to return to the Father. My sin seperated Jesus from His Father yet at that moment He chose to rmain obedient and the sea of tears that Adams choice brought so much more the joy Jesus' decision brought as He remained on the cross...for us. Cross as an idol... never remembering that moment in art, prayer, worship to the God that loves us so, well Jesus says" do this in remebrance..." And yes He is the King...and He tells us to remember no cross no crown!

Jesus said many times: "Take up the cross and follow me." He never said to take up your cross and hang it around your neck or on the wall. He gave us His body, which was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities. We are healed by the stripes of Christ, Praise GOD!

hm.. I wasn't really expecting this thread to get attention. I absolutely agree with you. I just thought I'd mention my thoughts on the cross, rather than the post as a whole.

I agree with you about Idol worship, I love that scripture from Isaiah and when it comes to the cross what i wear is just in outward expression of an inward reality, and i am displaying that. It might spark conversation, a witness tool, most importantly a remembrance of what He did for me...took stripes so I can be healed, became a curse by being hung on a tree to save me, endures the cross, despising its shame for the joy set before Him...His many brother and sisters, I know where He is at this very moment. We serve a living Savior and the cross is about victory , His victory why not wave the banner?

I've seen lots of people, mostly in hollywood, wearing a cross and totally misrepresenting our Lord. Honestly, most of the people I see wearing necklaces and such are not displaying an image of what Christ would portray. It gets me thinking sometimes about where people are putting their faith and trusting for their salvation to come from. It is obviously not used as a reminder either in a lot of cases because the people are still acting like heathens. Knowingly committing sin and taking Christ's sacrifice for granted is a sin itself. Wouldn't you think that somebody who was wearing a cross would be a little more self conscious of their actions?

Yes I too would think that someone wearing a cross would be more conscious of it, and act accordingly.Your observation of folks wearing it and acting as though it is just a piece of jewelry is correct as well. I can think of a number of current pop songs that mention Jesus and the content of the song does not reflect a lifestyle that is Christion. It is sad to see the cross trivialized and in such a public way, thus your concern and I get that. Keep your head up and do not forget the word of Jesus when He said that many in the church... He does not know! Wearing a cross or sitting in the pew does not make us Christian and to think so does not line up with scripture. Jesus said that people will know we are christians by the way we love each other. The mark of the Christion is not on the exterior but in the heart that is filled with the love of God by the Holy Spirit which has been given us then that love is turned outward to those around us. Remember there was one of Jesus' circle that was with Him getting his feet dirty in the dust as they traveled through Judea, he performed healings, spoke of God, was a part of the inner circle yet...Jesus said to him in Lk 22:48" Judas do you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?" Pretty sobering thought that one can get that close to Jesus, with a kiss, and not be Christian! So I would not be so hard on the cross wearers God is still working on them and the good work He has started I am confident He will see through.
