has anyone ever read chronicals of Narnia. (typo)
I got three books .
I plan on reading the magicans nephew. part 1 .
 
read them before you were born.
(i'm ancient)

could just be me, but i think better if you go in order?

The first one. Lion Witch and the Wardrobe.

I read them when I was in 3rd grade. Had no idea they were based on Christianity.

Read Mere Christianity and Screwtape Letters and a couple others when I was about 38. Great Books. Highly recommend them when you are done with the Narnia ones.
 
Yes, I've read The Chronicles of Narnia countless times. They were actually one of the few book series that helped me to learn to love reading (along with The Adventures of Tintin and The Hardy Boys). They're such short, simple books, but there's so much untold depth to them. Read all of the Chronicles, but please read them in publication order for maximum enjoyment and mystery.

it's hard to wait for 'in order' as i re-read them now, though. :p

No worries. If you can't stick to that order at least make sure The Magician's Nephew isn't the first one you read, nor The Last Battle.

If you're entirely new to the series though, you must begin with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
 
As I have matured as a christian the themes he dealt with are more true now than when I first saw them.
I have been very impressed with "the great divorce", which pictured heaven as the ultimate reality and life here as the illusion.

He observed how what starts in youth can become a distorted whole in later life, rather than a mature response to the very fabric of existance. It is trying to deal with the emotional realities that often lie behind life and relationships.

it's more like my eleventy-seventh time through now. haha

read them to the kids aloud i can't remember how many times, too. :)

Good on you, Mum!

Don't tell anyone, but one of the big reasons I want to get married and have kids, is to be able to share my passions with them. Especially my passion for The Chronicles of Narnia and The Adventures of Tintin. :)

My favorite was always Prince Caspian and the Dawn Treader. It's like a combination of Gulliver's Travels and St. George and the Dragon.
 
Apologies for bringing back a relatively old thread, but 'Mere Christianity' by C.S.Lewis is the reason I am here today.
 
I don't mind old threads if they contain books :D

I've read the Screwtape letters after this thread was made. Great book.

Mum and dad had this in their bookshelf for many years. I saw it as a child, I saw it as a teenager. But I didn't pick it up. The only reason was because I thought, why's C.S. Lewis trying to promote divorce as something that's great? But that didn't gel with what I knew of Lewis' from reading many of his works. In my mid-20's I remembered the book and bit the bullet and read it. It turned out to be a great novel.
