Can you tell the difference between your soul and your spirit?

Think of your soul as yourself. It's what makes you, you.
So when you hold up your hand and watch yourself make a fist and think to yourself that 'I'm me', that is your soul.
When someone calls you by name and you realize that it's 'You' that they are talking too, that 'You' is your soul.
Your spirit is the intellect of your soul. Your spirit can train your flesh and your flesh can train your spirit.
If a person listens to sad music all the time, they are training their spirit to be a sad spirit. If a person has strong will and forces themself to maintain healthy habits, that's their spirit training their flesh. The flesh is not the soul, the flesh contains the soul and spirit. If a person is mean, they are mean spirited. If a person drinks a bottle of spirits (wine), their personality changes. Their personality is their spirit.
It's like a piece of rubber. The rubber is the soul and how flexible it is would be the spirit.
At the end of this age when JESUS returns, we will all be changed from these flesh bodies into a perfect spirit body that is incorruptible in the twinkling of an eye. It is called a spirit body, but it holds the soul and spirit just like these flesh bodies hold the soul and spirit now.

Your view might be a bit complicated

The human is a spirit being made in the Lord's image .... and we have a physical body made of material elements which allows us to experience the material universe

Yep, there is a big difference. My soul breathes for a living...

Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

soul:

It is called a spirit body

According to 1Cor 15:44 it's described as a spiritual body rather than a spirit
body.

Just as there is a difference between a natural body and a supernatural
body; there is also a difference between a spirit body and a spiritual body.

Below is a list of spiritual things that bear absolutely no resemblance
whatsoever to things made of spirit.

spiritual gifts (Rom 1:11)
spiritual law (Rom 7:14)
spiritual things (Rom 15:27)
spiritual people (1Cor 2:15)
spiritual nourishment (1Cor 10:3)
spiritual water (1Cor 10:4)
spiritual rock (1Cor 10:4)
spiritual blessings (Eph 1:3)
spiritual music (Eph 5:19)
spiritual understanding (Col 1:9)
spiritual housing (1Pet 2:5)
spiritual sacrifices (1Pet 2:5)

So, with all that under our belts; I propose that we paraphrase 1Cor 15:44
to read as follows:

"It is sown a normal human body, it is raised up a superhuman body."

A superhuman body is capable of imbibing normal beverages.

†. Matt 26:29 . . I tell you: I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now
on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father's kingdom.

And also capable of dining on solid foods.

†. Luke 22:15-16 . . I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you
before I suffer. For I tell you: I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in
the kingdom of God.

========================================

Hebrews 4:12 (KJV) [SUP]12 [/SUP] For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

There we have the threefold makeup of a person, spirit, soul, and body. The word of God is able to penetrate throughout our body into the innermost places where abides the soul and the spirit.

James 2:26 (KJV) [SUP]26 [/SUP] For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

A person can fall terminally ill or be injured such that the soul, which is immortal, can leave before death. We call that a "vegetative state" that can lead to a "persistent vegetative state". The spark of life remains until the body dies. That's the spirit of man, the innermost being that is intended to commune with spirit, preferably God. Our spirit must be born again to save us. It should be obvious our minds are not as instantly renewed, but requires re-programming with the Word of God. That begins a process of renewing of the mind which is corrupted after our birth, like a computer that gradually gets fed conflicting files. Romans 12:1-2 (KJV)
[SUP]1 [/SUP]
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
[SUP]2 [/SUP] And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Then the renewed mind, us having the mind of Christ added, can benefit from the blessed state of the inner man, the spirit. With that in place we then are greatly blessed to have the Holy Spirit enter in power for anointing to perform the spiritual gifts God assigns. The mind can be trained up along the way previous if it has fed on the word of God, allowing a person to be born again, mind renewed, and filled with the Spirit all in one day. That's made possible by activating the stored word of God in the mind, which usually isn't well understood because of our prevailing natural unregenerated mind. Once meeting God's conditions to be born again, that inner 'switch' that has been set on "veil" can be turned on for instant use of that mind that was in Christ.

I'd just like to say that the spirit of a born-again Christian is where He dwells and when we read Scripture with a good heart, those words that we take into or with a renewed heart and mind will be "deposited" into our spirit where they are NEVER forgotten but 'brought up' as needed or appropriate - even if we get dementia.

The difference regarding the 'renewed heart and mind' is seen in the examples He gave of different types of conditions where the seed was sown - in Mark 4.

I only wanted to say that because it is a God-Send that we needn't depend on our memories because He Holds His Words like a bank that we deposit into by reading His Word and He withdraws it for us when needed. Glory to God!

I've seen this principle/fact in Many that have had their memories hit hard. Alleluia!

Your spirit is the faith given to every man by God. The soul is the marriage of that spirit with flesh. The woman (spirit) is free to marry a new husband (flesh) after the death of her first one.

Matthew 10:28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Genesis 1:30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground everything that has the breath of life in it, I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.

Job 33:4 The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

John 1:4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.

2 Kings 2:9 When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?” “Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied.

John 6:63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you they are full of the Spirit and life.

Matthew 28:8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples.

Daniel 12:2 Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.
breath (br

th)
n.1. The air inhaled and exhaled in respiration.
2. The act or process of breathing; respiration.
3. The capacity to breathe, especially in a natural and unlabored manner: shortness of breath.
4. Spirit or vitality; life.
5. A single respiration: a deep breath.
6. Exhaled air, as evidenced by vapor, odor, or heat.
7. A momentary pause or rest.
8.a. A momentary stirring of air.
b. A slight gust of fragrant air.

9. A trace or suggestion: a breath of scandal.
10. A softly spoken sound; a whisper.

God has given us all just a small portion (A breath) of His life in us and that portion of life in us is our soul. Why does joy give us the feeling as if we are full of life as others feelings like peace does the same as well? These are the feelings that a soul receive from being in God's presence, but if a person is cast away from His presence (Glory), will leave them with the feeling as being dead.

Hello veryelect
you said

our spirit can train your flesh and your flesh can train your spirit

your spirit doesn't do the training its your soul/mind that does the training and if you have been reborn your soul/mind can only be renewed by reading and believing the word of GOD(bible) and if you have not been reborn then you will just be carnal like the world because you are spiritually dead(separated from GOD)

your flesh can not train your spirit.
Your spirit gives life to the flesh the flesh does not give life to the spirit.

Genesis 2:7 Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

Revelation 2:4 Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.
