Yes, there is no need for an army of attorneys, simply the DNA evidence and Candace becomes a footnote while the Macron's walk out of court victorious and vindicated. Why have they allowed this to become such a circus?

Now she is a public figure so simply proving she is a woman will not "cook" Candace. You have to have proof that Candace knew that what she was saying was false. For example, if Candace asked for a comment and they sent her DNA evidence, and yet Candace went ahead with her story despite knowing that it was false, then they can sue for defamation.

To win a defamation case, the public figure must prove you made the false statement with "actual malice," meaning you either knew the statement was false or acted with reckless disregard for whether it was true or false.

I am not allergic to accountability, but I am aware of the law. If the defamation suit is going to succeed some of the issues will be whether or not she is a public figure, because if she is the bar is much higher to win a defamation suit. It is not sufficient for the information she said to be false, and at present neither I nor you have proof beyond a reasonable doubt that it is false.

However, if you clear that bar she still needs to prove that Candace said these things knowing they were false. For example, did Candace reach out to the Macron's for a comment before going public? If not that could be seen as reckless disregard for the truth. Or if she did, did they respond with evidence that the allegations were false and did Candace ignore their response? That is the law, it applies to all defamation suits and that is why public figures so rarely do go to court over defamation.

Why do you think South Park is not afraid of defamation suits? They only go after public figures, they know they are fair game to be mocked and ridiculed. If your career is based on being a publicly recognizable figure then you are open to this, and being elected President or first lady of a country would qualify.
