Hi @SadieH ! Welcome to the forums.
 I think I know what candle scent you are referencing, maybe.
I have 2 that I've tried that fit that description.
One I loved, the other not at all.
The one I loved seems to come out more seasonally in fall/winter.
The one I don't like seems to be available year round.

Worst one I've ever smelled? I don't remember. But I know there have been plenty of times I've sampled candle scents at the store where the name and colors captivate, but then I pull off the lid and sniff and it like
I love so many Yankee Candle scents, but Aldi candles are more my budget.

Worst candle you ever smelled. For me there was one that was for like men or something and it smelled so bad. I think it was supposed to be like woods and cologne but it definitely wasn't that.

I worked in Toxicology Research so I have in interest in reducing chemical use. I sub to this channel and your topic reminds me of this video.

i prefer burning unscented pillar candles but the few ones scented i have purchased were quite nice.

Citronella ones repel mosquitos I don't think they are that bad.

I can think some incense I really don't like the smell of though.

I guess now with electricity there's less need for candles as lights and people now use them for scent mostly.

Wasn't that what myrrh was, to cover up the smell of death.

Frankincense is alright. I just don't like the acrid smell of joss sticks, and some of the Indian ones make my head spin, I think it's the sandalwood I don't like. If it's made with chemicals or artificial fragrances, I feel very sick if I inhale them.

Was it Drakkar Noir? It's a candle and there's also a cologne for men by that name. The candle is plain black. I used to wear it but don't care much for it these days. I guess it's one of things like patchouli oil, gets old after awhile.

Nowadays I mostly use Mainstays vanilla wax melts from Walmart. They have a very large selection, but 99% of them smell horrible to me.
