They did not crucify Him for defending his values against the Romans. The Jewish leaders asked the Romans to crucify Jesus, because they envied Him. They were not allowed to administer the death penalty themselves, so they took Him to the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate. We read:
Mat 27:17 Therefore, when they had gathered together, Pilate said to them, "Whom do you want me to release to you? Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?"
Mat 27:18 For he knew that they had handed Him over because of envy.
So it is wrong to say He was crucified for defending His values against the Romans.
