Just power through, man. Sleep is for suckas. Redbull mixed with coffee... or something!
I can see colors!

Alright, I'm going to dispense medical advice, because, really, what else am I good for?
Okay. Melatonin is great. Your brain produces it anyway, and you may just have a deficiency. 3 to 5 mg is the max therapeutic adult dosage.
L-Tryptophan. Wonderful stuff. It's what's in turkey that makes people fall asleep. However, you want to couple it with a carb so it crosses the blood brain barrier correctly. You can also find it in milk, chicken, cheese, and various sleeping products.
Valerian root. It smells horrible, but it's effective for some.
Eating in general before bed will help produce serotonin, which will make you sleep.
LOVE Valerian root- put it in a tea- can't smell it!
Miss Aimee?
*raises hand*
Isn't L-Tryptophan just converted into melatonin? Aren't they the same thing?
Sort of. The body converts anything into what it needs. But technically they're separate. The L-Tryp will satisfy the dopamine and raise the serotonin.
I can't leave CC because all my homies are on!
for what it's worth, I was nodded off in my chair (for the 1st of several times tonight, it seems) about the time you posted that... yes, I was signed in, but no, not awake.
Also, as we age, our sense kinnda wear out. My mom can't really taste things much anymore. This disturbs me.^ the first sign of old age- nodding off in chairs![]()

Actually Mythbusters took this one on and discovered the sleep was brought on by the quality of food and the Tryptophan from turkey had no noticeable effects. Myth BUSTED!
"can't sleep clowns will eat me."
hain't seen that tee shirt in a couple decades.

hmm... Then Myth Busters will have to take that up with the medical community. Because when I'm asked about L-Tryp on tomorrow's final (oh sweet Jesus help me!), I'm marking "Yes Prof Pieterri L-Tryp DOES help induce sleep."![]()
No where does it say Tryptophan has no effect. It said the myth that it is the Tryptophan in the turkey had no effect. The sleep was induced by the quantity of food. The tested levels of Tryptophan in the turkey were not high enough to have such a strong effect.
Ahh, yes yes. Either way, turkey still contains it, and if that man wants a sammich, he should eat a sammich!![]()
