Jesus says in Matthew 7:16, By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
Catholics and Protestants both have strengths and a history of achievements. By looking at the fruit of each group, we can see how both groups complement each other and how we can benefit from working together for the kingdom of God.
A major strength of Catholicism is organization. There is a Catholic hierarchy to hold leadership accountable. Society can thank Catholicism for a large number of private schools that include a Christian education. Additionally, communities benefit from Catholic athletic programs that are open to all youths regardless of their religious preference. Finally, historic conversions originated from extensive Catholic missionary work around world.
A main advantage of Protestantism is freedom. Protestants enjoy a considerable amount of liberty when it comes to beliefs, Biblical interpretation, and church affiliation. Protestantism can be thanked for the availability of Bibles in easily understood languages. Contemporary worship within Protestant churches inspired much of the Christian music popular in today's culture. The ease with which one can become a Protestant and simplicity of faith has increased the number of Christians around the world.
This blog could continue listing and examining the accomplishments and strengths of both groups, but I hope the reader can glean from what is here that both Catholics and Protestants have much to offer God's creation. In the future, I pray we would choose to focus on our strengths and benefits rather than our disagreements and failures.
