But not for higher pay.
It seems that the Chicago public schools are in terrible physical condition, many classrooms are without air conditioning. But because 90% of the student's families fall into the poverty level category, the funding for those schools is short of what is needed.
Rahm Immanuel who is the mayor of Chicago is stuck without enough money to help them. Needless to say the citizens of Chicago cant really afford new taxes to pay for the needed repairs either. So who suffers the most? The students suffer the most, but not because of what the teachers are doing. It is going to cost billions to get this school district up to the physical standards many other school districts merely assume is basic.
And of course if and when Obama is re-elected and if he gives Chicago some special money to help out guess what the republicans will be saying the next day? Well it wont be pleasant. Given that the republicans would insist on eliminating this school district and privatizing it, is there any private company willing to invest the money to bring them up to standards I doubt it.
