Is you name Ritter Jimmydiggs? I didn't think so. Please take your off topic comments somewhere else as we all assert children are a blessing in context. What we're discussing is how to deal with overpopulation that results in children dying terrible deaths full of horrible suffering by famine, disease, violent conflict over scarce resources, etc... that result from overpopulation in a given locale.

Overpopulation is just liberal propoganda to justify abortion and birth control, especially on large scales.

Just out of curiosity Ritter, do you think anything whatsoever should be done to curb the cyclic famine cycles that occur in some parts of the world where they have as many children as possible until the ability to feed them is surpassed after which they literally sit around and watch the babies and children bloat up and die of hunger enmasse until the population decreases to a sustainable level and then in time repeat the cycle?

Forget about what I said. What is your view on this and what do you see as a moral solution (if any)?

I would prefer to keep the answer to your question public.

Most of the problem has to do not with the number of children being born so much as it is the places they are born/systems they are born into.

Of course, a return to first principles and a relinquishment of power does not occur over night.

So what is a people to do? Well adoption would help. As would the education of women.

If you want a panacea, there isn't one. Policies like one baby per couple are certainly not the answer.

I stand with Jimmy on principle. Overpopulation is not the problem nor has it ever been. The problem is tyranny and the fact it is too anemic to deal with things like population growth. Technocratic moves are bound to backfire.

well i'm not diggs or ritter.

everybody knows that lifting societies up economically + education lowers the birth rate.

the countries you are talking about are purposely kept poor and in turmoil by the colonial pirates (who are also the masters of immigration policies as a war tactic, btw).

if africa or india's food is on the stinking NYSTE going to the higher bidder to buy sell and trade what to do you think will happen?

the over population alarmists are the enemy of mankind.

There is no population explosion on this planet: our population problem isn't too many humans on the planet, but too few owning too much of it - Robert Newman.

before you get your Commie branding iron out - i'm talking about CROOKS (Goldman Sachs; Rothschilds) that steal other people's things (Commodities Trading; proxy wars) that never belonged to them - then create "Philanthropic Organizations" to go sterilize all the paupers they created.

overpopulation in a given local due to regional natural issues related to that region's choices or natural resources (or lack thereof) are their business, and it is their cycle.

spend fewer bucks on death rays and GITMO and send some relief when needed.

“The common enemy of humanity is man.

In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill. All these dangers are caused by human intervention, and it is only through changed attitudes and behavior that they can be overcome.

The real enemy then, is humanity itself."

The World Food Programme states that "842 million people in the world do not have enough to eat" that "Poor nutrition causes nearly half (45%) of deaths in children under five - 3.1 million children each year."

Almost half of "God's gift"s die each year due to malnutrition and hunger in areas where population exceeds natural resources.

Starving-Child-Africa.jpg

In the macro, earth is a system and as a system can only support so many people in the aggregate. But long before that point is reached overpopulation results in the destruction of the system itself with the extinction of species and many other undesirable reversible and irreversible consequences.

In the micro, specific geographical areas posit a maximum number of humans that vary depending on the specific geographical locale, it's resources, etc... This is a fact.

The term overpopulation refers to the relationship between the entire human population and its environment, the Earth, or to smaller geographical areas such as countries.

Save the Children states, "half a billion children could grow up physically and mentally stunted in the next 15 years due to malnourishment in the world’s poorest countries."

Most contemporary estimates for the carrying capacity of the Earth under existing conditions are between 4 billion and 16 billion. Depending on which estimate is used, human overpopulation may or may not have already occurred. Certainly in some locales it has already occurred. In the aggregate, for those that say it hasn't, the trend is that it's going to.

Current United Nations predictions estimate that the world population will reach 9.0 billion around 2050, assuming a decrease in average fertility rate from 2.5 down to 2.0. But understand that roughly half of all nations have quadrupled their populations since 1950.

In overpopulated locales, it's desirable for parents to use birth control and plan their families within the scope of their ability to provide for them. In many areas, this means one child per couple or no children per couple in extreme circumstances to avoid what amounts to birthing children just to watch them starve and die.

You're going to have to come to grips with reality. There are population limits and these limits have already been exceeded in various locales with mass death, deformity, and horrible suffering occurring as a result.

I'm not sure what to think about Christians who say birthing mass numbers of babies in areas where overpopulation has already exceeded available natural resources is moral and good. To me it's not. It's irresponsible and negligent and they die enmasse after short lives of horrible suffering.

Preventing this from happening through preventive (NOT abortion) birth control is good and desirable.

GARBAGE

all of it.

Current United Nations predictions estimate that the world population will reach 9.0 billion around 2050

ya...find out who does their estimating. CRACKPOTS who said by 1970 the world would reach critical overpop mass. (MORE ON THESE PSYCHOS SHORTLY)

can't you do any better than this?

THOSE KIDS ARE STARVING TO DEATH BECAUSE THEY ARE BLACK AFRICANS AND NOBODY CARES ABOUT THEM.

so don't post your rank emotional appeal as a backdrop for STINKING birth control FOR "THOSE PEOPLE" and this Draconian GARBAGE.

here...look this over.
get back to me.

OPTION 1) BIRTH CONTROL for the African mothers?

Africa is LOADED with resources.
why do you think THOSE PEOPLE (the colored ones) are starving to death?

The daily London gold “fixing” occurs at the N. M. Rothschild Bank in the City of London. Here, five of the Eight Families-linked banks unilaterally decide what the price of gold will be each morning. Kleinwort Benson’s Sharps Pixley subsidiary is one of the five firms. Another is Mocatta Metals. It is majority-owned by Standard Chartered – the Cecil Rhodes-founded bank whose Dubai branch wired Mohammed Atta the funds he needed to carry out the 911 operation.

Midland Bank subsidiary Samuel Montagu is a third London gold “fixer”. In 1999 Midland, headquartered in cocaine-money infested Panama, was bought by the British oligarchy-controlled HSBC – the old Hong Kong Shanghai Bank Corporation opium laundry and now the world’s second largest bank. Midland is partially owned by the Kuwaiti al-Sabah monarchy. The other two gold fixers are Johnson Matthey and N. M. Rothschild, both of which have interlocking boards with Anglo-American and HSBC.

Mayer Amschel Rothschild once said, “I care not who controls a nation’s political affairs, so long as I control her currency”.
Anglo-American is the world’s third largest mining company. It is controlled by the Rothschilds and South Africa’s Oppenheimer family. It owns both Engelhardt – which enjoys a near monopoly in global gold refining – and the DeBeers diamond monopoly. The current De Beers chairman is Nicky Oppenheimer. De Beers was indicted in 1994 for price-fixing by the US Justice Department. To this day company officials do not set foot on US soil for fear they may be nabbed by US authorities.

The Rothschilds also control BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto, the two biggest global miners, as well as Royal Dutch/Shell, BP and Bank of America. As Bank of England Deputy Governor George Blunden put it, “Fear is what makes the bank’s powers so acceptable. The bank is able to exert its influence when people are dependent on us and fear losing their privileges or when they are frightened.”

Mayer Amschel Rothschild sold the British government German Hessian mercenaries to fight against American Revolutionaries, diverting the proceeds to his brother Nathan in London, where N.M. (Nathan and Mayer) Rothschild & Sons was established. Mayer was a serious student of Cabala and launched his fortune on money embezzled from William IX – royal administrator of the Hesse-Kassel region and a prominent Freemason.

Rothschild-controlled Barings bankrolled the Chinese opium and African slave trades. It financed the Louisiana Purchase. When several states defaulted on its loans, Barings bribed Daniel Webster to make speeches stressing the virtues of loan repayment. The states held their ground, so the House of Rothschild cut off the money spigot in 1842, plunging the US into a deep depression. It was often said that the wealth of the Rothschilds depended on the bankruptcy of nations. Mayer Amschel Rothschild once said, “I care not who controls a nation’s political affairs, so long as I control her currency”.

War also enhanced the family fortune. The House of Rothschild financed the Prussian War, the Crimean War and the British attempt to seize the Suez Canal from the French. Nathan Rothschild made a huge financial bet on Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo, while also funding the Duke of Wellington’s peninsular campaign against Napoleon. Both the Mexican War and the Civil War were goldmines for the family.

A Rothschild family biography mentions a London meeting where an “international banking syndicate” decided to pit the American North against the South as part of a “divide and conquer” strategy. German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck once stated, “The division of the United States into federations of equal force was decided long before the Civil War. These bankers were afraid that the United States…would upset their financial domination over the world. The voice of the Rothschilds prevailed.”................AD NAUSEUM

while we're at it, let's talk about that lucrative SLAVE TRADE.

The Population Bomb is a best-selling book written by Stanford University Professor Paul R. Ehrlich and his wife, Anne Ehrlich (who was uncredited), in 1968.[1][2]

It warned of the mass starvation of humans in the 1970s and 1980s due to overpopulation, as well as other major societal upheavals, and advocated immediate action to limit population growth. Fears of a "population explosion" were widespread in the 1950s and 60s, but the book and its author brought the idea to an even wider audience.[3][4] The book has been criticized since its publishing for its alarmist tone, and in recent decades for its inaccurate predictions.

The Ehrlichs stand by the basic ideas in the book, stating in 2009 that "perhaps the most serious flaw in The Bomb was that it was much too optimistic about the future" and believe that it achieved their goals because "it alerted people to the importance of environmental issues and brought human numbers into the debate on the human future."[2]

THEIR SOLUTION?

STERILIZATION; FORCED ABORTIONS; EUGENICS......and where are they today?

In Population Bomb he wrote, "We must have population control at home, hopefully through a system of incentives and penalties, but by compulsion if voluntary methods fail.

We must use our political power to push other countries into programs which combine agricultural development and population control."[14] Voluntary measures he has supported include the easiest possible availability of birth control and abortions.

He was not opposed to mandatory population control if necessary, including the suspension of food aid to countries which were considered "hopeless" to feed their populations.[15]

Critics have alleged that he was in favor of forced abortion and sterilization. However, this is not true.

The Ehrlichs did describe these coercive methods in their 1977 textbook, Ecoscience: Population, Resouces, Environment but they did not endorse them, saying, "A far better choice, in our view, is to expand the use of milder methods of influencing family size preferences, while redoubling efforts to ensure that the means of birth control, including abortion and sterilization, are accessible to every human being on Earth within the shortest possible time.

If effective action is taken promptly against population growth, perhaps the need for the more extreme involuntary or repressive measures can be averted in most countries."[16]

Today Paul Ehrlich has become more focused on the United States, claiming that it must get its population (and consumption) under control as an example to the rest of the world.

well how about that AoK?

well that could work too.
in fact, that's WELL UNDERWAY.

John Paul Holdren (born March 1, 1944) is the senior advisor to President Barack Obama on science and technology issues through his roles as Assistant to the President for Science and Technology, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, and Co-Chair of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST)[1]
Holdren was previously the Teresa and John Heinz Professor of Environmental Policy at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, director of the Science, Technology, and Public Policy Program at the School's Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, and Director of the Woods Hole Research Center.[2]

Overpopulation was an early concern and interest. In a 1969 article, Holdren and co-author Paul R. Ehrlich argued, "if the population control measures are not initiated immediately, and effectively, all the technology man can bring to bear will not fend off the misery to come."[21]

In 1973, Holdren encouraged a decline in fertility to well below replacement in the United States, because "210 million now is too many and 280 million in 2040 is likely to be much too many."[22]

In 1977, Paul R. Ehrlich, Anne H. Ehrlich, and Holdren co-authored the textbook Ecoscience: Population, Resources, Environment; they discussed the possible role of a wide variety of solutions to overpopulation, from voluntary family planning to enforced population controls, including compulsory abortion, adding sterilants to drinking water or staple foods, forced sterilization for women after they gave birth to a designated number of children, and discussed "the use of milder methods of influencing family size preferences" such as access to birth control and abortion.[12][23][24]

when we say FORCED ABORTIONS AND INFANTICIDE AND WITHHOLDING OF FOOD is okay for THOSE PEOPLE (far away...the overpopulated unwashed colored people) - WE ARE SAYING WE AGREE IT SHOULD BE DONE TO US.

as long as you abide by that, alright with me - YOU GO AHEAD AND GET STERILIZED.
sever your own family line FIRST.

as an example.

why is this hard to see?

...

The entry of Monsanto in the Indian seed sector was made possible with a 1988 Seed Policy imposed by the World Bank, requiring the Government of India to deregulate the seed sector. Five things changed with Monsanto’s entry: First, Indian companies were locked into joint-ventures and licensing arrangements, and concentration over the seed sector increased. Second, seed which had been the farmers’ common resource became the “intellectual property” of Monsanto, for which it started collecting royalties, thus raising the costs of seed. Third, open pollinated cotton seeds were displaced by hybrids, including GMO hybrids. A renewable resource became a non-renewable, patented commodity. Fourth, cotton which had earlier been grown as a mixture with food crops now had to be grown as a monoculture, with higher vulnerability to pests, disease, drought and crop failure. Fifth, Monsanto started to subvert India’s regulatory processes and, in fact, started to use public resources to push its non-renewable hybrids and GMOs through so-called public-private partnerships (PPP).

What I have to say relates more to the beginning posts in this thread.

I too live in China (for the past 2.5 years). Last spring (2013) there was a case of a forced abortion on a woman who was 7 months pregnant. It was a horrible story, and despite government's attempt to hide this story from the public, it leaked, and vast amounts of people were outraged. So, although it's true that forced abortions were more common 'back in the day', they do still occasionally happen.
Maybe the forced abortion scenarios happened many years ago or are very isolated, but it's not as common as that video seems.

One of my Chinese friends and I have had many conversations about China, Chinese people and all that has changed in China over the past few decades. One of the things he commonly refers to are the "rotten morals" (his words) of so many chinese people. He often describes people as being "broken" inside. Money has become the most important and sought after thing in people's lives. This, sadly, is not just in China, but more of a universal reality. So, although the PRC has been catapulted into modernization bringing so many people out of poverty, it has come with costs. The communist revolution left millions of people dead, millions still are being used by Chinese and foreign countries and companies alike for their cheap labour, willingness to work in poor working conditions, and lack of any safeguards for workers. Check out this documentary called Death by China. It speaks more to economic and political realities. It's an interesting (and unnerving) watch...

Good stuff everyone. I admit, I've been playing the role of contrarian to spark such excellent posts as you've all brought. I side with you. Thanks for letting me play the advocate. It's amazing how much food modern technology can produce today. I've been looking at the scientific literature and it's really incredible.
