Ehh... I honestly can't stand rap. Never been able to get into it. to me it seems to take no skill. Just some electronic beats and then some rhymes thrown into the mix. Technically anyone can rhyme and use a computer to make music.

It can also be said anyone can strum a few chords and hit the snare, but does that make other forms of music talentless?
Not liking a musical style is one thing, we're all entitled to our opinions, but to attempt to discredit it as 'untalented' by using generic language is not valid. All music can be stripped down to it's basic elements and be labeled as talentless. Not just the styles you don't like, but the ones you do like as well.
In fact, i've heard many times people talk about metal as talentless noise. Why did they say that? Because those people had the same mindset you do. 'I don't like it so i have to discredit it'. Why not just not like it and still acknowledge it can take some skill?

It's called the 'JPM' (like BPM, but it's Jesus instead of beats) factor. Presuming something is more Godly based on how many times they say God or Jesus in a song. It's not a new mentality. Though the error in it is blindingly obvious.
It's what's on your mind.. It's not saying God ten times more that makes it better.. There's a worldly way of doing things and there's a heavenly way.. As I said rap was made from embracing pain, why would I put God in a category of pain? He's the exact opposite .. He's healing, not pain..

well brother, when i read the Psalms, i see a whole lot of pain.
and also a whole lot of comfort in the face of it, because our God is a comforter of the brokenhearted and a strong hope for the downtrodden.
example:

PSALM 22:

1 My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?
Far from my deliverance are the words of my groaning.
2 O my God, I cry by day, but You do not answer;
And by night, but I have no rest.
3 Yet You are holy,
O You who are enthroned upon the praises of Israel.
4 In You our fathers trusted;
They trusted and You delivered them.
5 To You they cried out and were delivered;
In You they trusted and were not disappointed.

6 But I am a worm and not a man,
A reproach of men and despised by the people.
7 All who see me sneer at me;
They separate with the lip, they wag the head, saying,
8 “Commit yourself to the Lord; let Him deliver him;
Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him.”

9 Yet You are He who brought me forth from the womb;
You made me trust when upon my mother’s breasts.
10 Upon You I was cast from birth;
You have been my God from my mother’s womb.

That's before being saved..." Healed " by Jesus..

These are poems as well, don't think vibrations, strobe lights, and worldly dialogue were part of it. If Gods Spirit is with us, we will bear the fruit. Rap is a culture, it's a way to dress, act, talk, etcetera, gold teeth and all. Not a psalm. The fruits of the spirit are
Galatians 5:22-23

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

don't you know that every one of the psalms are songs, to be played by musicians and sung? David even had instruments made for temple use, and appointed Levites to as choirs and musicians.
i am quite sure that every psalm was set to 'vibrations'

Wake up, harp and lyre! I will wake up the dawn.
(Psalm 108:2)

but i agree that they are not worldly and that strobe lights didn't exist 4,000 years ago.
"i will wake up the dawn" -- wow, i bet they played this psalm loudly!

i could tell you about how a lot of the melodies in our hymnals are taken from drinking songs - how the tunes themselves came from a 'culture' of drinking but aren't used in that way at all anymore, now with godly lyrics set to what had been music used for worldly purposes, but if you've written off an entire genre of music because you have trouble separating the sound and style from the way some worldly artists live, i doubt it will convince you of anything.

it's not important whether you or i 'like' rap music or not. i just hope we can refrain from condemning our brothers and sisters who take it captive and set it to the use of the gospel, and who are blessed by spiritual songs written in this style.

I guess I just have a personal problem with it, as I said I just don't fit to that style of living anymore. I did say if people find joy in it so be it... I don't condemn anyone, I even told someone here I liked his song he asked me to listen to, and I do. I'm more in to silence these days, where I can think, hear nature and people. I'm just different I guess, nothing new for me.
