hello everybody,
im not sure how to actually explain this but im going to try..
so i have tennis matches coming up this weekend which im excited about but mostly very nervous. i was the nr 1 tennisplayer in my country for a couple of years but then i had child and didnt play tennis for couple of years but i picked it up again but now im soo scared to compete because of the fear of losing.
GOD says that we should not have the spirit of fear wwithin us but of love and self discipline. but how do i apply that even to sports? i guess i've always been a bit scared of rejection or what ppl may think.
when i was winning i wasnt a christian and almost hated competition just because the pressure of lsoing,i was training twice a day and even my studies suffered becasue i was so determined not to lose.
all i want is to play tennis in freedom,i want to go and be excited about the match and not care about winning or losing to the point that it takes all the fun away and leaves me with fear of failure.
are there any athletes here who know what im talking about????

God bless

Read 1 John 4 and see what the love of Christ can do for your fear.

All I know is that we should enjoying playing sports (Soccer/Football/Tennis). I don't know why should we be some much concerned about the outcome of a game. Give your best..... enjoy the game......Wear a smile whether you lose or win...... :-))

Number 1 in your country! That's awesome.

I play tennis too and I like to think that I'm the number 1 player in my street.

Tennis is cool. Don't worry about it - just play.

Yeah its true, this picture was taken of sharp right after he won his streets tennis tournament.

i know exactly what you mean... you want to just love the sport without anything tearing down your love for it. when you love something, you put more passion and work into it without even being aware of it. i've been on a mission to find out why i haven't wanted to run when i truly do love it. when you make it more than it is by thinking about it which brings in negativity in all sorts of ways like thinking about losing and things that just haven't happened yet will hinder your relationship with the sport. i guess what i'm trying to say is you have to find the purpose of why you play tennis, which it already looks like you did (by just playing the sport makes you happy) and then convince yourself that you don't care about the outcomes... but you look forward to everytime you play. Take out the stresses and negativities that hinder your love for the sport. does that make sense? if it helps you, just think that there's always someone better than you and this life isn't about how good we are, but our relationship with God/Jesus... something way bigger that should be able to help you stop yourself from thinking in a "What if... " but makes you think in a "I love life and everything about it" way which will help you play better and stop you from not enjoying the sport

hope that helped...

hahahahhahahah ow what would CC be without Nod.
thank you for the advice guys. im trying to loosten up and just enjoy but i dont know how..i come from a sports family, both of my parents are serious atheletes who were also the champs of my country but in basketball(not tennis) so they taught me to train hard and win. if they would push me like that in school and in obeying God i would have been the smartest person alive, lol.in my my family we play to win. i guess im competetive when it comes to sports.
tomorrow i have my first match, i will let you guys know how it went.

thank you!

won my match! whooo! was still very very nervous and didnt play my usual game but i won...

I kinda know wot ur tlkin abt... Firstly im Australian so i play cricket not tennis lol. I used 2 struggle wif bein 2 competive nd being a crowd plzer rather than playin 4 the glory of God. A year or 2 ago i was challenged by the verse "and woteva u do do it heartly as 2 the Lord" i learnt tht its not abt bein popular wif the crowd or abt winnin but abt doin ur best for God and 4 his Glory =)
