Is there is a Christian movie that isn't seen as heresy to the Christian believers?

Many Christians can not even accept different translations of the Bible, calling anything other than the King James heresy and created by Satan, so its not really rocket science to conclude that films based on, and there is the clue, an event recorded in the Bible will also attract hate and criticism that is it heresy and evil.
 
I remember catholic archbishops got angry in the media over the passion of the Christ because it showed Jesus being beaten to a bloody pulp. Well yeah, it happened and its good for us that it did because He took the punishment we deserve for us...in saying that. I haven't seen this flick but I would though to get a tasty visualisation on what happened. I know what to reject and what to accept regarding biblical accuracy. But I do wish they would stick to what the bible says in these movies though.

I didn't realize that the RCC archbishops got angry over the RCC Mel Gibson produced movie. They did go to extremes on the beating. Christ did not pay for our sins with the beating, but on the cross after the beating. IMHO, Gibson's beating is not something a man could survive. After they had the Christ beaten soundly once, then they brought on another -- as I recall first it was wooden rods, then they brought in metal.

To appreciate it, I think one has to mentally transfer the 2nd part of the beating, the most extreme beating to a symbol of his suffering for us on the cross.

BTW, "By His stripes we are healed" is a mistranslation. The word is singular, not stripes; translate like "with his marring" we are healed.

Yes, it is annoying how they can take a story which has even too much detail & plot for a 4 hour movie (like Moses), cut out so much Bible & then clog the plot with suppositional additions. I don't object to suppositional additions in general, however, as long as they are possible and believable (not absurd). Of course it is most annoying when they directly change the plot, like have Delilah lead Samson to the pillars.

The best movie ever made (that I know of) is the Gospel of John, which is word for word from a modern version of John. Christ's deity jumps out at you. But even that movie goofed where it had the arrest of Christ. When they asked for Jesus of Nazareth and Christ answered, EGO EIMI (I AM, the name of God), the text says they went back & down. They read the lines correctly, but didn't show a dramatic fall back & down of the arresters.

Why do you say "many"?
It appears to me that the KJV heretics are a very small minority among those who call themselves Christian.

To the extent that a movie follows the Biblical record, it is based on the Bible.
To the extent that it is based on fanciful ideas of those who sneer at the Bible, to that extent it is baloney any way you slice it.

Thanks for the review, a helpful review. I think I can pass on this movie.

The reviewer says, "From the opening scene of the trailer Moses is told by “Nun” (someone not mentioned in the Bible) about a prophecy the year Moses was born that he would be a great leader of Israel."

It would appear that the reviewer doesn't know that Joshua was the son of Nun. Having someone prophecy the birth of Moses is not outrageous; it is possible.

BTW, before anyone goes off on his hobby horse criticizing Moses, that one is advised to read very carefully what the NT says about Moses, as by Stephen in Acts 7 and as by Hebrews 11. (Now don't go against what Stephen & Hebrews say.)


 
Books and movies are two very different mediums. A straight adaptation makes for a very dull movie. If you want the original, just read the Good Book. Personally, I enjoy/appreciate some different takes on Bible classics. We always have the original.
 
Did anyone actually expect this to be 100% biblical or did normal people use common sense and realize this was made to be a moneymaker that also looks extremely entertaining?

Since when has the film industry, especially in Hollywood, stuck to accuracy when making historical films or stuck 100% to the plot, story and characters in a book? Just about every film made has artisitc license and changes things around to make it more exciting and even to dumb down events for the audience, or even in some cases change nationalities in order to make Americans look like the heroes, for this I have a film specificlly in mind, U-571 which told of how an Enigma machine was captured from a sinking U-Boat, this event involved the British, but for the film it ended up being Americans of course!

So, when a film maker things "What can I film next" and sees how Bible based films are flavour of the month they run with that, yes the Bible has amazing stories that make amazing films, but of course like everything else, just the basic story is kept intact with artistic license applied to everything else to make an even more dramatic and amazing story!
 
Missed the edit, but should add there is a film called Saving Mr Banks, which is a story about how Walt Disney finally managed to get PL Travers to sign rights over for Mary Poppins, this was supposed to be a historically accurate film, about how the film industry trys to tamper and mess with a story line and characters that an author is fighting hard to prevent before signing over the rights.

Quite ironically after this film came out, many people said that is not quite how it happened and even this supposedly historical film has a lot of artisic licence and included a lot of events and scenarios that did not even happen!
 
Didn't read the whole review but I never expected this movie to be 100 percent perfect anyway. I'll definitely go see it and will take what is good from it and leave what is bad. Nothing can be as bad as Noah.
 
Let me also add that if they change a LOT of things in the biblical narrative, and upset all the jews, christians, and muslims in the world... that's just a WHOLE LOT OF FREE PUBLICITY when everybody starts complaining.

Yes, people really do think like that.
 
Not sure how this movie will be, but this review seems to not be too favorable. Either way, to be perfectly cliche about it, as I said in another topic about Bible-based movies; The book is always better than the movie.

Noah may not have been your cup of tea or even that good of an adaptation of the Genesis account but I thought the movie was very well done. It was just more of a psychological thriller and Midrash hybrid.

Why would Exodus of all things mention the Gospel of Jesus Christ?

The Gospel of Jesus Christ came about when he started to 'teach'.

You guys remember those teachings right? Those are the scary ones you guys never mention.
