The one I really liked was Before Their Eyes but it has been a loooonggg time

I will never rate the growling genre (what is it officially called?) more than mediocre, but "Branches..." was more coherent instrumentally, and I appreciated "Broken Flesh" showing the lyrics. "Antestor" would have been better by featuring the female
introductory part more, like Night Wish does.

My metal taste began with Inna-Godda-Da-Vida, continued with Master of Puppets and ended with Night Wish.
I am unfamiliar with Christian groups in the hard rock genres because I did not hear them on the radio.

There's a few metal sub genres that have growls but you'll mostly find them heavily in "Death Metal" and the sub genres of that. Broken Flesh would be considered "brutal" if the lyrics were not Christian (think Cannibal Corpse, etc).
The more orchestral stuff I posted is unBlack or White metal, it's the same sound as Black Metal but God focused instead of satan worship.

Interesting that you listed Master of Puppets, most Metallica fans I've met consider it a "sell out" album, I personally love that album and most of the stuff before it.. Ride The Lightning was also awesome.

I remember hearing Night Wish years ago when I was in my Power Metal phase. I think they are Symphonic/Power Metal but it's not a genre I know a ton about so I could be wrong lol. Did you ever get into Blind Guardian or Within Temptation?

Thanks for that educational info and your feedback, ZC. I guess I will never appreciate Death Metal or vulgar Rap. I consider the drum solo in "IGDV" to be the best ever--rather hypnotic with interesting subtle changes.

My knowledge of Metal music stems from what my son introduces me to, except for Iron Butterfly, which was before his time/birth.
He also introduced me to Blackmore's gypsy music phase (aka Renaissance and Medieval music) after he married Night, which I really like (e.g., "Under a Violet Moon" or "Ghost of a Rose") and is the sound I envision for my song "From Paul to the Proud":

From Night Wish I would recommend starting with "Creek Mary's Blood". I think it is rather amazing that a Finnish group could write such a beautiful song about the Trail of Tears. I also love "Nemo". How their leader could produce symphonic and choral sounds with the keyboard was impressive. I find much of their secular music to be heavenly.

Regarding my two metal songs: I composed them while strumming my guitar in about 1968 and wished for the opportunity to have a garage or studio band rock arrangement until last year, when the Lord finally answered my prayer via Suno with my son's tech help, which did an amazing job following my instructions. Glad you also like them, and feel free to share them with others.
