What does Jude 20-23 mean? How do Philippians 4:4-8 and Ephesians 4:11-16 relate?
Hmmm......... well, let's read them and see if the Holy Spirit gives us any insight as to how they relate......:unsure::love:

Jude 20-23 King James Version (KJV)
20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

22 And of some have compassion, making a difference:

23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

Philippians 4:4-8 King James Version (KJV)
4 Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.

5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Ephesians 4:11-16 King James Version (KJV)
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

So, first I'm getting understanding of the scriptures........:unsure:

Jude 20-23 King James Version (KJV)
20 But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

Jude calls the reader "Beloved" so he is writing to those that love Jesus Christ and are loved by Jesus - believers, the bride of Christ.

Jude tells us to build up ourselves or increase our holy faith in Jesus Christ our Lord, Savior and King by praying in the Holy Ghost which is to pray according to the Father's Will not ours - we can pray by speaking in tongues or in our native language but it MUST be according to the Father's Will which is only known by the Spirit of God - the Holy Spirit.

21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

Well, I cannot love God if I hate my brother so, Jude warns us to stay and abide in God's love for us and others because we have received and known the mercy of God which is forgiveness of sins because of our Lord Jesus Christ which has an eternal reward of eternal life.

Basically, love God and others and forgive everyone, show mercy.......give others what we have received freely.

22 And of some have compassion, making a difference:

When someone is sinning or suffering from sinning, we are NOT to judge but rather have compassion on them....by showing compassion and offering help, we can make a difference in the person's life......just as Jesus showed us compassion and made a difference in our life.

23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.[/QUOTE]

This verse reminds me of Jesus making the whip and driving out the money changers in the temple.... He hated their works of greedy flesh... He didn't kill them immediately but, perhaps He invoked some "fear of the Lord" in them and He was able to pull them out of the fire of God's eternal judgment.......:unsure:

Righteous indignation reacts to works of the flesh in the same way Jesus reacted to the money changers. The driving force is always LOVE for God and LOVE for people.....NOT hate.

Let's look at Philippians 4:4-8 next.....:love:

Philippians 4:4-8 King James Version (KJV)
4 Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.

Paul and Timothy are encouraging all the believers at Philippi to hold on to their joy and be mindful to rejoice in the Lord at all times because God is always good and the end of all things is good for all that love God and are in Christ.

5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

Paul and Timothy are encouraging the believers to live modest lives well pleasing to the Lord, openly in public view, not secretly.......but, by our public lifestyles as believers we make known Jesus Christ to all people and we live in such a way because we are expecting the Lord's return.

6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

We're not to worry about anything we have need of, instead we are to simply ask God in prayer and trust He will provide and show us if we need to do anything.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Trusting God when we have not yet received any provisions that we have asked for bypasses our human reasoning yet, because we know God, we can trust Him and because God gives us understanding of how He will provide, we simply learn to walk by faith.....which keeps us in peace and we are able to keep our hearts and minds focused on Christ Jesus and the Kingdom of God.

8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Think positive....keep our thoughts focused on good, not evil. Do NOT let our minds wander wherever doubt and fear would like to take them......instead, FOCUS our thoughts on what is TRUE, HONEST, JUST, PURE, LOVELY, GOOD REPORT, VIRTUIOUS, and PRAISEWORTHY!

=======================

Lastly, let's look at Ephesians 4:11-16.......:love:

Ephesians 4:11-16 King James Version (KJV)
11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

Paul is telling us about positions of "ministry leadership" in the Body of Christ. Those that mature in the love, knowledge, understanding and wisdom of God find themselves operating as apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers.

12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

Those in ministry leadership are to be full of God's Word and Holy Spirit, knowing how to submit to God and walk in unison with Him as He (God) ministers to His Body of Believers, as well as God also ministers to those in leadership.

13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

Maturity......able to love God and others as we love ourselves...walking in love, one with God and each other.

14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

Paul tells us to basically grow up! We need knowledge of God with understanding and Godly wisdom. If we remain foolish, we will be divided and not walk in love.

15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

We are to grow up and learn the truth of God's Word and learn to love the way God loves, speak the truth in love, not with condemnation or judgmental thoughts or attitudes.....the head is godly leadership, to rule and reign WITH Christ.....to have the Mind of Christ.

16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

Helping one another, not attacking fellow believers. I know many come in unaware in sheeps clothes and are wolves but, the Good Shepherd will deal with them. It's more important that we stay focused on the truth of God's Word and the LOVE of God in our hearts.

Juda 22:Some people have doubts about word of God.We have compassion for them as Christ did for us.
