My nephew recently went to England with his high school's marching band and were all in a parade. While there, he took pictures of multiple sights, including some churches, which looked like Catholic churches. I asked him about one particular church if it was a Catholic church and another family member said there were no Catholic churches in England and they were all driven out. o_O I was shocked at that response and did an internet search on churches in England and found there are over 3,000 Catholic churches there.

How many Catholic churches are there in the UK? There are over 3,000 Catholic parish churches and chapels in England, mainly in urban and suburban areas; there are relatively few rural examples, but those that survive are often amongst the oldest and most important.

When your family member said that the Catholic churches had been driven out, they were correct but referring to past history. When King Henry VIII started the Anglican church, the Church of England, he confiscated all Catholic church properties and claimed them for his church. He made it illegal to be Catholic in England.

But, Mailmandan, your assertion is correct, today there are many Catholic churches in England. Surprisingly, while the Church of England is declining rapidly, the Catholic church is growing in England.

And the reason that you thought that some churches looked Catholic is that they most possibly were built by Catholics and confiscated by the Anglican church.

Just some history.

The English laws against Catholics resembled the German/Nazi laws against Jews in many aspects.

The relevant portion of law: Roman Catholic Relief Act 1829 c. 7 (Regnal. 10_Geo_4)Section 18:
It shall not be lawful for any person professing the Roman Catholic religion directly or indirectly to advise his Majesty, or any person or persons holding or exercising the office of guardians of the United Kingdom, or of regent of the United Kingdom, under whatever name, style, or title such office may be constituted, [F1or the lord lieutenant of Ireland], touching or concerning the appointment to or disposal of any office or preferment in the [F2Church of England], or in the Church of Scotland; and if any such person shall offend in the premises he shall, being thereof convicted by due course of law, be deemed guilty of a high misdemeanor, and disabled for ever from holding any office, civil or military, under the Crown.
I think that it's still illegal to have a Catholic in the British monarchy.

Wattie, you say, ",,,,,,,,but I haven't seen that hate you are mentioning in ifb churches." The fact is that the LGBT movement labels any group that doesn't accept their moral values as a homophobic hate group. They use this accusation as a weapon against those who won't join them.
Yes true. From their perspective it's like that

The Bible is clearly resolute in that homosexuality and same-sex relations are condemned as an abomination. Not only is homosexuality described as unnatural behavior but furthermore an indication of severe wickedness and abandonment of God.

Despite the clear Biblical teachings on the immorality of same sex unions, the Church of England has decided to move away from Scripural/Biblical teachings. Today, the Church of England, while not condoning same sex marriages, will 'BLESS SAME SEX CIVIL MARRIAGES'. But this is clearly not what Jesus taught, "A marriage is between one man and one woman'.

The Church of England has taken this stance in order to assure same sex couples that they are welcome in their churches. But, while doing so, it has abandoned God's teachings.

Church of England formally apologises for ‘shameful’ treatment of LGBTQI+ people (msn.com)
What's distressing to me is how many American churches are losing it. Pastors who think salvation is works-based, heretical doctrines being introduced... Christianity in America is dying, and this is being reflected in her recent elections.

America needs a new great awakening period and she needs it now.

Well, that's because the America Left is so proudly tolerant. In fact, they're so incredibly and earth-shatteringly tolerant that they cannot tolerate anything that they regard as intolerance.

I cannot bear to gaze upon their light...

Its every sad. Its a time of mourning and sorrow. Many churches and church leader are deconstructing their faith. It seems a time of apostacy is upon us.

The Anglican church is a symptom not a diagnosis. We have here on this site people who deny or question the identity of Christ. Who passively and even actively predict the day the Lord said himself that He does not even know and that there is no sign of warning. That deny the institutions established by our Lord. Who believe the foolishness of false teaxher and prophets and will wheel on you visciously to defend heretics and frauds.
Apostacy is definately upon us.

apparently 'high anglican' is just another name for catholic...its just in the fancier catholic church buildings that they couldnt quite get rid of.

Like westminster abbey.

Most of the abbeys and convents and monasteries in England got gutted, burned or destroyed but they couldnt remove them all and repurposed them.

Princess Diana was supposed to be Protestant but she actually was more new age. He mother turned to catholicism.
The Queen married an agnostic who was supposedly Greek orthodox.

The royal family worship in a church in scotland though I dont think they are fully presbyterian however the reason why its called the United Kingdom is because of the relationship /alliance between England and Scotland, and to a lesser extent Ireland (which has been mostly catholic) and Wales.

Wales had a revival. The troubles started in Northern Ireland because of the catholic and protestant divide.

its all political. Under Queen Victorias reign UK became very prudish and hypocritical, but it was a change from the anything goes period of regency ...and there had always been some kind of homosexuality and adultery in the royal family.

I mean queen anne etc

Even going back to the Bible, they had polygamy and King David was an adulterer. King Solomon was no better.

Catholic convents and monasteries were hotbeds for homosexuality.

conservative churches are no better with serial divorcees who keep remarrying. Theres also incest and stuff going on within families.

Everyone is dysfunctional..even the nuclear family cant sustain istelf as it cuts out the grandparents role.

Only the "head" changed: Catholics believe the head of the church is the pope. Anglicans believe the head of the church is the king.
