Your contribution is as important as anybody else. Contributing is the only way we all can figure out why others think the way they do on the bible and why they have chosen to believe a certain way, so keep contributing.I shouldn't even contribute, but I read something interesting today.
John 6:27 "Do not labor for food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life..." No demonination started from this verse because they took the words as being perfectly literal (or if they did they long since starved to death).
Jesus isn't saying don't labor for food, but rather for everyone to seek "food" that goes to everlasting life. It is not a command to never labor, but a command to seek the things which are truly important.
in a similar way, when a scripture says "sing to The Lord" it doesn't mean it can only be done with your voice and no instruments.
There are some Scriptures that shouldn't be taken perfectly literal.
1) There is no command in the New Testament for Christians to use instruments of music in the worship of the church.last thing and then Im done. Show us the verse specifically CONDEMNING instruments and Ill pay attention.
1) There is no command in the New Testament for Christians to use instruments of music in the worship of the church.
2) There is no example in the New Testament of a church, apostle, teacher, or any Christian ever using an instrument in worship.
3) It is not of faith, therefore it is sin (Romans 14:23).
4) It is going beyond that which is written (1 Corinthians 4:6).
5) It violates the command to “sing” (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16).
6) Singing is commanded; the accompaniment of a musical instrument is an “addition” to this command, and therefore it is wrong (Rev. 22:18).
7) The use of the instrument in worship to God is a failure to “abide in the doctrine of Christ” (2 John 9).
8) Those who use the instrument in worship “reject” the authority of Christ (Matthew 28:19; Luke 6:46).
9) It cannot be done “in the name” (or by the authority) of Jesus (1 Corinthians 4:6; Colossians 3:17).
10) From the above evidences, the use of the instrument in worship is obviously not from Heaven, so it must be from men (Matthew 21:25).
From the above Scriptures, we can now “clearly” answer this question, “Can Christians use musical instruments in worship and still be pleasing to God?”
Can you tell me if there's any commands in the New Testament to sing only? Can you show me in the New Testament where Psalms is used in the New Testament as described above with these instruments in worship, as I know it's used in the Old Testament.Psalm 150 begs to differ:
"3 Praise God with trumpets
and all kinds of harps.
4 Praise him with tambourines
and dancing,
with stringed instruments
and woodwinds.
5 Praise God with cymbals,
with clashing cymbals. "
What you like and what God commands are totally different when it comes to how God commands us to worship. I also like instruments but again, it's not what I like or think when it comes to doing what God has commanded.Iv always been told by my grandmother before she died that our particular church (which is Church of Christ) doesn't believe in instruments. We have always sang accapella. Iv never minded but these days i think there's nothing wrong with it, i would even like instruments. As long as your using ti to worship God, who cares?..Just my two-cents anwyays![]()
