Oh Clueless
Where have you been
I came across a library book about the fashions in Clueless.
It was of course, the yellow plaid.
Now if you don't know, Cher Horowitz in the movie wore the yellow plaid Dolce and Gabbana outfit and Dionne wore a similar one in black and white.
It was like THE thing to wear. Funny thing is in many schools in New Zealand girls are made to wear plaid or tartan skirts. But we would never have them that short. They had to be below the knee. The socks, well when I was a teen in school long white socks were the thing. Or long socks scrunched down like leg warmers. But these Beverly Hill fashionistas in Clueless were wearing mini skirts/kilts teamed with thigh high over the knee socks! The thing was to have a gap between the top of your socks and the hem of your skirt.
In winter as it was cold and the wind could really freeze your legs, we had to wear thick stockings. It was such a relief when, in some schools, girls could actually wear trousers/pants as uniform...or even school branded trackpants.
Now thing is I never really got why girls are only meant to wear skirts and guys are only meant to wear shorts or longs. It must have been a hold over from the last century 1950s. But even back then, they had pedal pushers or capris. So whats with the outcry of women wearing the pants??? You have to, to get anything done in life. Who wants to go round worried that some one can be perving up your too short skirt, or trying to ride a bicycle in a long skirt?
Why does skirt = feminine
And pants/trousers = masculine
Or is this waaaay to controversial for CC? Are we meant to get a Clue?
