Those that partake in unbelief suffer the consequences...

1 Corinthians 11:29-30 KJVS
[29] For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. [30] For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

So what makes a piece of Weston or a Hostie special? To me it is just wheat until we add the ingredient of faith.

To an atheist a hostie is a wafer with no meaning ... to someone with faith in Christ it is His body.

A piece of Weston? Please explain! (Must be something up in Canada...)

Not to hijack anything, but, out of curiosity, when/how often should we partake in this communion together?

It is unleavened bread (cracker) and pure fruit of the vine (grape juice). There is nothing magical about it, it is just obedience; for as often as you partake you proclaim the Lords death until He comes. It does not turn into Christ's actual body and blood, just like the globe doesn't turn into actual earth. It reminds us of Gods covenant with us and our covenant with Him. We are to partake of it every first day of the week in the assembly of the saints (Christians).

when it's time to take communion witch we do every month , is it wrong not to partake . I know why we partake but if one dose not , is it a sin ???

I suppose it sort of depends on WHY you are not partaking.

As followers of Jesus, we should look forward to every opportunity to commune with others in the body, remembering what Jesus did for us..

edit... I don't believe there is any scripture that says how often we should do it.... other than "as often as you do this, do it in remembrance of me..."

Personally, I have no issues with wanting to partake every day, not just on the first day of the week...

I think it depends on your view. (the scriptures never say, as far as I know). The Scottish reformers were of the opinion that it was something that should be kept as SPECIAL, so they did it four times a year. John Calvin thought that since it was a command and a means of grace, it should be done at every opportunity--he served it 3-4 times a week! (so I've heard).

Breanna.... The only problem I would see with not taking it, is if you are doing it with a spirit of rebellion... Jesus told us to do it in His remembrance. If you willingly say "I'm not gonna do that", then you've willingly gone against what Jesus wanted us to do.... which is sinning.

Missing because of sickness, having to work, etc, is simply missing the opportunity to commune, or fellowship with other believers, and Jesus. Not a sin, just a missed chance.

I believe that Jesus gave us the communion in the way He did because it was SIMPLE. It's like a meal... in fact, it was a part of their meal... the Passover meal they were sharing together. There is no reason to have someone "special" do the communion... as long as two or more are gathered in His name..... Our family would always have communion when we were on vacation, usually camping in Colorado.. so there were 5 of us gathered in His name, sitting around a campfire, remembering Jesus' sacrifice for us.

My dad would find other believers on ship-board on his way to the Philippines in WWII, and they would have communion together.

It's a simple act, on purpose.... so we can participate at any time....

Thank you hornetguy for you answer , well with a spirit of rebellion no i do take communion but don't have any one at home to do it with as i live with my brother and his wife . I attend Stony Plane Baptist Church and i think this is the Sunday we are to have communion and if i can't make it i would miss out and i don't like missing out on this important event as i agree 100% with you on this matter it is way to important to any believer . Wow you even took communion around a camp fire that is so cool . So the pass over was the last supper , and it was part of a meal , i did not know that .So communion could be every day if there were two or more gather together in his name .

I don't think there would be anything wrong with that... historically, it's done on the first day of the week (Sunday), but I don't know of any command that says that is the only, and correct, day to do it... Jesus simply told his disciples that "as often as you do this, do it in remembrance of me"...

May I make a suggestion? Ask someone at your church if they would mind coming over and taking communion with you when you are available... I can't imagine anyone refusing to join you in that. Most churches have some type of ministry to visit the sick, or bedridden, so this situation should fit right in with that.

Out of curiosity, in what part of Canada do you live? I have a good friend that lives in Calgary..

Oh wow.... I just googled Stoney Plain Baptist, and it's in Calgary.... I'll PM you....

Besides being born again in Christ, a healthy body and mind are the greatest blessings anyone can have. And the Holy Communion is God’s ordained channel of healing and wholeness.

On the night that He was betrayed, Jesus ate His last supper with His disciples. And knowing what He would accomplish through His sacrifice, He instituted the Holy Communion (Luke 22:19–20, 1 Corinthians 11:24–25).

His loving instruction is that we are to remember Him as we partake of the Holy Communion. Jesus wanted us conscious of how His body was broken for our wholeness, and His blood was shed for the forgiveness of our sins. And whenever we partake in this consciousness, we “proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes” (1 Corinthians 11:26).

Today, when we partake of the bread, we are declaring that Jesus’ health and divine life flows in our mortal bodies. And when we partake of the cup, we are declaring that we are forgiven and have been made righteous. Jesus’ blood gives us right standing before God, and we can go boldly into God’s presence (Hebrews 4:16). When we pray, we can be sure that God hears us!

You can take communion everyday! When your having health problems you should especially be taking communion for them.

A rather funny story, since this thread is going to be an argument soon, about my nephew. When he was about 6yrs old he took communion at church. It was a small church and they were big on including the children in everything because they had a lot of young couples. I dont agree with giving communion to children because they cannot understand the meaning behind it. Anyhow he was at the alter with his parents. The pastor began to explain taking the bread and they all took the bread and then the pastor talked about the cup and the blood. For some reason this is when my nephew clicked in and when they began to drink the juice he turned to go back to his seat. My BIL asked him where he was going and told him to stay still. He said out loud " No,I aint drinkin no blood Daddy!" lol Embarrassed my sister to death. The things kids say.

The communion is to remember the Lord's death till He come. We remember His body and blood which was given for us to make atonement for our sin.

It is a significant part of personal worship but is not necessary for salvation. Very useful in sanctification as we are to examine ourselves before the Lord. Keeping a clean slate before the Lord.

For the cause of Christ
