I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this or not, but I have been dealing with severe depression for a very long time, have prayed and begged for help, gone to doctors, to no avail. It seems as though no matter how hard I try every day my life has been one failure after another, big and small. And I read in my daily devotional every morning about how it is my "duty" as a Christian to praise God and I am honestly finding it harder and harder to praise God when he seems obviously just fine with the fact that I live in constant pain and misery. Would a child praise and adore and worship a parent who sits back and watches them suffer every day? How am I suppose to love a God who either hates me, or at the very least, simply doesn't care about me?

Hi Rob and welcome. What kind of failures have you had that are getting you down? When you say you're in constant pain and misery, what do you mean exactly?

Have you ever read the book of Habakkak? If not, it would be worthwhile. I recognize it's difficult to go through prolonged periods of trial, but God hasn't left you. He is actually revealing some things to you about Himself and His ways, but you are missing them in your pain.
God is often very different than our ideas about Him. This is something Habakkak learned. In chapter 1, we find him questioning God and complaining. In chapter 2, we find him listening and learning from God. In chapter 3, we find him worshipping and praising God. The interesting thing is, during his transition from complaining to worshipping, his circumstances don't improve. They get worse.
I'll be praying for you, and if you would like to chat more, I'm here.

" We have not because we ask not", start there and seek His guidance on how to seek and receive His healing and restoration.
Taking in and putting this teaching to practice produced immediate results in healing for myself and others. He gives his testimony at 30 minutes of #2.

God would not have us spoon fed.
All things work for our good who are in Christ Jesus. Bad and good. Even if we die.
We are blessed and cursed not.
Depression means you may have hidden anger. You might need spend time forgiving.

Hi Rob,

I'm sorry you're going through this most difficult situation. A few direct questions if I may... How sure are you that if you died today that you would go to spend eternity with the Lord? And your Bible reading plan. Is it everyday.. or are you only reading devotionals.. or maybe both? Do you still listen to secular music and watch secular shows and movies? How often are you denying self and doing for others in need instead? How often are your prayers for others and not so much the self.. In Jesus Name? Are you going to church or fellowshipping with other believers regularly enough or at all? Not judging of course, but these are things I needed to get better at to begin experiencing less excess stress, anxiety, depression which is the absence of joy, peace and God's love(Rom 10:9-11; John 15:1-11; 16:23-24; 1 John 2:15-17; 2 Cor 4:18; Col 3:2; Eph 5:8; Luke 11:36)

If we truly belong to Christ Jesus and are now heirs along with Him, then the "eternal weight of glory" will far outweigh any and all temporary difficulties that we find ourselves in here in our temporary lives and bodies. All who truly follow Jesus will suffer. Just make sure you are following Jesus being a doer of His Word so you can experience the fruit of the Spirit which will more than get you through(Rom 8:17; Phil 3:7-11; John 15:18-19; Gal 5:13-14, 16-17, 19-24). This is where you'll find His peace, joy and love in the midst of this dark world.

Being a doer of the Word means you are getting to know Him and not just know of Him. There's a big difference. These works were set before us not to be saved but to glorify Him as we walk in them(Matt 7:21-27; James 2:18-24; Eph 2:4-10; John 17:3).

God bless you, Rob. And may the Holy Spirit speak to your heart and mind as to your current position before the Lord. I pray this to the Father.. in Jesus name 🙏

Also..

"But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you search for Him with all your heart and all your soul. When you are in distress and all these things have come upon you, in the latter days you will return to the LORD your God and listen to His voice."
— Deuteronomy 4:29-30

Hi, Rob!

Sorry to hear about the difficulty you are struggling with. Are you engaged in regular fellowship at your church? Have you spoken with your pastor or an elder?

Every good and perfect gift is from the Father above. The bad things we experience are not from Him. He will never forsake you, for The One who loves you is faithful. In Isaiah 49, God says He has you written on the palm of His hand. He gave His Son for you, Rob.

Perhaps, you are on the edge of a breakthrough and the enemy know God is going to soon do something wonderful in your life. I pray that He blesses you and shields you from the difficulties.

There is peace in reading the Bible, praying and in fellowship in church. True peace is there. In the interim, here are some scriptural answers as to why we sometimes have difficulty….

Start saying "I will" when it comes to good and hoping in God. It doesn't have to mean straining yourself without direction, just being patient and fully set on his promise that he'll deliver you, as long as you beleive.
