Story Date: December 3, 2012

The police will probably be eventually granted access to all of our texts, messages, online posts, and facebook data one day (well they already are if we are suspect in some criminal activity I think) - but this was unheard of years ago, it is the same as allowing them to record all our phone conversations. I am not paranoid, I am just pointing out that there is no difference between access to our online data or text messages and the recording of our phone calls, but if you told everyone the police was now recording all of our phone calls, people would go nuts. Hopefully people will realize this is the same type of privacy invasion. Either they should be allowed to record all conversations in any form, or record none at all. Texts are just a private as phone calls.

Just so you know, they already do have access to ALL of your information on Facebook (suspect or not). The CIA is the number one provider of funds for Facebook.

If laws were few in number and reasonable in content.

If the tax system was fair.

If Homeland Security memos didn't label Ron Paul fans and law-abiding gun owners a potential threat.

Then I might be able to see an argument for it. But this climate? No.

Do your job as a law enforcement officer and I'll do mine as a free citizen of the United States. That should be enough to keep us both safe.
 
The problem with this kind of intelligence, is that people being people often exaggerate or stretch the truth.
Lots of rumours are also spread via text messages, only a few days ago I got a text message from a friend who spoke to a friend who spoke to a market trader who spoke to a friend with some information. By the time the message got to me, it was clear most of the information was wrong. I sent a text messages back with the correct information as the wrong info could have caused lots of problems.

Facial recognition software doesn't care for the geometry of smiles. It can be used for anything from identifying bodies to reverse image searches (such as photos people post on their FB pages without selecting "friends only", "only me", etc.). And, if law enforcement is granted access to FB without limitation, I doubt those settings will matter.

I don't particularly like any of this, and I hope some day to get away from it. I don't think that will be possible without moving to Africa.

I know. His Body will prevail in the end. Just seeing what is coming before it comes can be kind of disheartening. Sometimes I feel like I'm wasting my time bothering with a college degree, knowing quite possibly within my life it will be useless because of the coming persecution.


I kind of look forward to it in some ways though. It will free me from a lot of obligations.

Criminals who pose a threat to national security could be caught before they have even committed an offence with software used to track their online behaviour, it is claimed.

Their future movements can be predicted by ‘mining’ vast amounts of information from social media websites including Facebook and Twitter.

After a few clicks, a detailed picture of their life, including information about their friends, can be built and used to predict where they might be in future and who with.
