Could a saved person temporarily be deceived by False Prophets even about the Gospel?

When i first heard the Gospel i happily received it. I just thought its too good of an offer to say no to, even though i obviously had some doubts from a whole lifetime of the world telling me otherwise creeping in. I suppose i believed enough to bow my head and pray afterwards.

After that i sometimes thought that its too good to be true and kinda sought out "other versions" (i understand there is only one) and in that process heard a whole bunch of false doctrine.

Yesterday, and sometimes before that, i realized that some of this false doctrine did stick to me.

For example, i used to say "believing means trusting in the finished work of Christ on the cross alone to save you".

Yesterday however i heard a pastor (Steven Anderson) and saw my error corrected. The "finished work of Christ on the cross" is his sinless life. He obviously still had to pay for our sin in hell and rise again. I left those parts out with my saying.

Clearly i spread false doctrine about the Gospel, even though i firmly believed myself to be saved.

My question: Could a saved person temporarily be saved about even the Gospel or was i saved just now?

Anderson teaches that Salvation by faith alone, which the Bible makes very clear.

Isnt it rational to say that because Jesus took up our sin he still had to go to hell? Afterall, that and the resurrection are part of the Gospel too.

I have not yet been baptized but i definitely want to. I know i dont have to in order to be saved, but i still mean to.

I think God is going to allow most people to have one or two little errors in their understanding of the gospel. God is not going to give His glory to anybody. Paul had so much of God's truth he had to have a thorn in the flesh to keep him humble. What Jesus said was that the false Christs would not deceive the very elect. (see Matt. 24:24)

Ok, there is a lot going on here in the response posts. I have read your posts Chicken_Brent, you have a decent grasp on the gospel of the grace of God. Distinctions made in scripture by God are important to our learning and personal growth as we study. Here is what we are to understand about the gospel of our salvation, as the church the body of Christ, when it comes to resurrection, and the testimony of God in this age of grace and the ministry of reconciliation, Jesus Christ died, was buried and God the Father raised him from the dead for our justification. Put on the faith of Christ, develop the mind of Christ according to our ministry, that is our high calling.

When we trust in the "faith of Christ" believing the testimony of God about His Son, we are crucified with Christ, baptized BY the Spirit into his death, quickened and raised with Christ by the faith and operation of God, according to the doctrine of our gospel, sealed unto the day of redemption as purchased possessions. We are blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places, as the inheritance and glory of Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior.

As believers, sealed & saved, we possess the life of God now, in earthen vessels, the inner man, precious treasure, Christ in you. And, we are instructed to take heed how we build the doctrine of life eternal, gold silver precious stones, wood hay stubble, so you see we can have wrong thinking when it comes to the instruction for our house of doctrine, the key is our methods of approach to bible study.


As one of the posters pointed out, there is a distinction in the ministries conducted by John the Baptist and by Christ, and the 12 Apostles and the apostle Paul... Apollos was instructed in the way of John the Baptist's ministry, you know what that means, he was still looking for the messiah, following a doctrine of a ministry that wasn't to be at work, a ministry decreased(house of Moses), as the ministry of Christ increased (house of David).

There is no LITTLE ERROR in deliberately misrepresenting the finished work of Christ. In fact it is heresy to teach that Christ went to Hell (the Lake of Fire) to pay the penalty for our sins. While the intensity of His sufferings on the Cross could well have been equivalent to the torments of Hell, when He finished His sufferings He also cried "IT IS FINISHED". The false teachers are telling people that meant "It is NOT finished", therefore Christ spent three days and three nights in Gehenna (the Lake of Fire). That is utter nonsense and heresy.

It is not rational but it is clearly heretical (see my preceding post). However since you have chosen error over truth, do not expect more light on the subject. After reading the responses to your OP, you should have accepted the fact that Anderson is a false teacher. But instead you have doubled-down in your false belief. This is typical of most people with false ideas.

How does three days in hell pay for something that is eternal.

this is Just a few scriptures, But it really tells us that Gods Not Looking to catch us in our errors or times we struggle or even get off track with Belief, Usually, if we are sincere in seeking God, He will always direct us out of those doctrines when we Begin to see.

its Not about " Being saved...then Not saved, saved again." its about Being Born , being cared for, Loved immesurably, and this even though God already Knows every deed we Have done both Good and Bad. He still sees us as His People, His beloved enough to send His Son, His Only Begotten Son to first teach us the truth about God, to shpw us, to reveal His ways His will His truth and then, to die in Our Place, for Our wrongs.

it would Be amazing if Jesus just died for a good Man, or just only the best of us, but its even More amazing that He died for the worst of us as well. The Mankind that turned its Back on its Creator, its creator sent His Only Begotten to suffer and die to redeem, to restore, to reconcile Man and God. we did everything Wrong, and He still Loves Mankind still calls us to repent, and turn Our Hearts Back to Him in truth.

Actually, hell has areas, levels and compartments/or pits, just as the earth and upper atmosphere have layers. Jesus was speaking to the spirits in prison from paradise, just as the rich man called to Abraham for Lazarus. Death and hell get thrown into the lake of fire. But, the gospel isn't about where Jesus went, or even the divinity of Christ, that is doctrine injected into the word of life by theological minds.

How could the Gospel not be about the deity of Christ (divinity has a somewhat different meaning)? Please note that this passage is a part of the Gospel message:

Did you notice that it was the mighty God, the Everlasting Father, who was born as a babe in the manger and then went to the Cross for our sins? Anyone who fails to believe with their whole heart that Jesus is God will die in their sins.

Also, it is important to point out that it is HADES -- not Gehenna (Hell, the Lake of Fire) -- which has compartments. Christ went to Hades for three days and three nights. The false doctrine which claims that He went to Hell is a falsification of the truth.

When i first started studying I held to the same thing you did concerning Christ, but when the verbiage is considered the truth comes out that Christ spent three days and three nights in the heart of the earth, in Abraham's bosom "paradise" which was separated from hell by a great gulf which no man could pass "Luke 16".....until the death of Christ, those who died saved "believing into the coming messiah" were held in Abraham's bosom....after Christ resurrected the dead in Christ now are carried to the presence of God to await the resurrection from the dead and that tie frame when Christ comes again and brings them with him. "1st Thessalonians 4, 1st Corinthians 15"

There has been a lot of confusion simply because the King James translators chose to use the same English word "hell" for three DIFFERENT places: (1) Sheol/Hades, (2) Gehenna, and (3) Tartarus. Christ was very much ALIVE in Hades -- not Gehenna -- for three days and three nights, preaching (or proclaiming) to the spirits in prison His great victory accomplished at the Cross.

Also the roasting with fire is part of every sacrifice.

Christ made "His SOUL an offering for sin" which means that He suffered the torments of Hell within His holy soul while hanging on the Cross. That is why there was total darkness over the whole land for three hours while He suffered intensely for our sins.

Yes, it is Hades which is in "the heart of the earth" or "the lower parts of the earth". But the Lake of Fire is "in outer darkness".

Of course it's possible for a saved person to err in knowledge and be deceived. It won't last, though, with a son of GOD.

This is false because the falling away in the church is exactly christians being deceived & never coming back.
That's not to say all of them will do that, just proving the Bible says otherwise.
