Courting vs. Dating

I'm single but not lookin, but if I was to be with someone God would be in the middle, a clean relationship in the eyes of the Lord.....n MYB possibly marrige
 
The parents being involved brings the family together and allows for accountability
 
I think we just throw around different words with the same meanings... But for me, if I was interested in someone, I would get to know them or whatever, we could just hang out, grab lunch, whatever. After a few times of that, ask her out on a legitimate date. After a couple of those, decide whether we wanted to date exclusively or not, and if so, then do it.

Being in a college relationship with someone whose parents may or may not be 1000+ miles away, "courtship" like you guys are describing is not feasible. Group dates aren't really possible, and supervision isn't possible. That doesn't bother me, but of course I probably have different standards for what can happen in a relationship before marriage than most of you anyway.
 
To the contrary I have seen many of those relationships occur from 1000's of miles away. It takes the commitment and outlines made by the families and then the RA or a church leader holding the couple accountable.

It comes to an understanding of those who have come before you having more wisdom in the matter then you as they have gone before and you submitting to that understanding. I have never met somebody who courted to regret it, I have met many a person who regretted dating.

Certainly. But I am a legal adult, and I would be in a relationship with another adult. I love my parents, and respect them both a lot, but they would not have any say over the progress of the relationship outside of an advisory role. However, since I do respect them a lot, I probably wouldnt be dating someone they didnt approve of anyway. In any case, all I'm saying is, I will decide who I date; its not my parents decision anymore.
 
DanuckInUSA - Well, I do not think God wants us to live according śome stricktly lined rules, even in relationship between a man and a woman. On the other hand, you are right, that it surelly prevents many pairs of adultery, which is good of course. But I would not call this dating nor courting this is probably not about any relationship between those two before marriage, is it? Well I conclude by the form of my sisters church where the two even do not court, they are just said, they belong to each other and they usually marry very soon after.
 
hmmm courting sounds more romantic, and it reminds me when jacob courted racheal! So cute.........!Seven years of hard work just to get aproval of her hand in marriage!

I've always thought the terms were synonymous. Two people meet each other and get to know one another with a view to developing a romantic relationship. I'm not sure I see where the difference is between the two words.

I guess courting is more about getting to know the person. True there shouldn't be too much difference between the 2 in Christian relationships. You know, God willing there's no sex before marriage, and the couple get to know each other properly before commiting, whether dating or courting.......due to human nature though, not always the way things go.

However, even some non Christians in the past used to spend time courting getting to know each other. Sometimes in the prescense of family or friends, to limit temptation. That's why in England (and around the world?) you'll get older people, Christian or not, asking if your courting, or cooourtin' if your from Yorkshire like me :)
 
for me, dating is just going out on dates, whatever. courting is the parentally supervised version. at least that's what most people on here seem to think.

Parentally supervised? There's no way I could convince my mother to come with me if I were off out with a lass.

Huh. I suppose that means I fall under the bracket of 'older people'. And yes, I'm from Yorkshire as well.

But the rest of your post, I'm afraid, doesn't do much to clarify things. If your definition of courting is 'about getting to know the person' then how does 'dating' differ?
 
I believe courting is when you have love for someone and you want to show them how much you love them without lust getting in the way. It's better to find out if they fell the same after they get to know you.
How many times have dates ended up all heated and your lost your head in the moment.
