Have you read Rebekah's story in The Book of Genesis? Do you think that's ridiculous too? God's way is not our way..He knows what is best for us. Does it matter if His best for you or other people may be more than 1000 miles away?
That is not a fair argument. There are plenty of things that God condoned in the Old Testament that would not be permissible (even to you) today. .

The way people dated in those times was different. Girls also got married and pregnant at 12 or 13. It was just a different time with different circumstances.
What is it that is not permissible today? Dating people who live far away from each other??? Because we are talking about a long distance dating/courtship here, not other things... And who decide if it is permissible or not? YOU?
Whatever happens in the Bible, all the circumstances that happened are meant to show us that we should take them as examples to learn from..They are not just there for nothing!

The rules vary from couple to couple but are set out in a meeting between the man, the woman and the parents of both. They set understandings of how the courtship will be conducted and put restrictions on time spent together, physical intimacy, chaperoning etc.

Right. I didn't say it wasn't. I just said that the circumstances today are different. The themes and concepts are the same, but we shouldn't do exactly the same things. Does that make sense?
It's not there, but it doesn't have to be. Plenty of other historical documents suggest that marriage ages were much younger 2000-3000+ years ago, even more recently than that. The Bible (while accurate) is not the ONLY accurate historical document.

You havent done much homework here. Most of the young marriages are stated in the Koran. Yet we are talking about the Old Testament. However, it is actually irrelevant to my point that I was trying to convey to you..
I think Seaco meant that all of our stories and situations are NOT going to mirror the ones in the Bible. Yes the story of Rebekka is a great one to learn from but there are so many other situations and circumstances in life that most peoples dating/courtship won't look anything like that. That is just one family's story.
