Soooo I need advice. My husband and I have been together for 5 years but married for 1.5 years. We have a beautiful 3 year old daughter.
2 weeks before We were to say our vows he told me he wasn't going to marry me. Most humiliating thing ever! We split up. For an entire month. During that time I started 'talking' to another guy. Nothing more nothing less than friends.
My husband begged me back for a solid week. All day everyday. (we already had a huge past) Finally just asked if he could come hang out at OUR house as friends, watch our shows and not talk about us. Well I informed him I was not going to let him back in my life if we weren't married. He said he'd marry me in a heartbeat. He came over, we planned a trip to Vegas and within a week we were married.
Well about 6 months into it, his normal unattentive, careless self kicked back in so I had started texting and talking to my old friend. Eventually I created this emotional relationship with the guy.
He found out about all the secrets, We decided to work through it. We were stronger than before all that, for 3 weeks until he went out of town for wk. moved 5 hours away from his wife and daughter.... In that same town lived a girl HE had an emotional relationship with before we ever got married. He would try to tell me over and over they were nothing more than friends.... Blah blah blah! I guess he was there about two months and then called and asked for a divorce. I tried to talk him out of it, over and over and over again, I drove the 5 hours away with our daughter in hand and tried to talked to him... He just couldn't get over what I had done. Little did I know he was using the girl for all his emotions. He wasn't budging w his decision. So I left him with a good Godly message and came home. Nothing changed with him so I filed for divorce. We agreed on everything. I found a man that was strong in his faith & treated me like a princess. He ended up sleeping w that girl. I was not intimate w my bf... Yet! He decided he wanted his family back and I stood my ground. He's left me so many times....
He came home in Jan and stayed at our house, and I realized I was losing my daughters other half, sacrificing her childhood for my feelings. I was loosing my best friend. I was doing exactly what I said I'd never do, get a divorce. My childhood was full of that sort of conflict and now I face trials because of that. Well during that visit home, little did I know my husband had hired a lawyer to take my daughter from me because he didnt like the way I was raising her. He didn't want me back, he wanted nothing to do with me. I wasn't a bad mom, I just wasn't the blossoming mommy I once was when my life was under control.
He had ended up skipping states, for work. 28 days on, 10 off. He came home every 28 days for 10! He made it clear there was no way we were working things out. He could never get over the feelings he had. So I continued my spiral downfall. Not as bad... It had slowed down. I went on a date w a guy I barely knew, but took the proper precautions I thought to do. Never had I ever really dated... He slipped something in my drink that took away my ability to move on. Y own... I didn't know this right away. I woke up at his house, drove to my moms (where my daughter was) but don't remember driving there, slept for a solid 24 hours and my mom & friend who's house I stopped at on the way home, informed me there was something mega going on... & there was.
So I find out that my husband wants my lifestyle to change or there's not a chance he's considering us. Rightfully so. I don't do anything. Don't date which he said I should still do, basically, bc he wasn't going to stop. I started going to church, i got saved. I now have the holy spirit. I feel it, and ive never felt it before this. He came home, it wasn't good enough because I had to tell him about the date from hell. He could see changes but that next month wasn't quite it either.... The next one, he actually let me go w him to hang w our friends. We did family stuff with the 3 of us as well as with each of our family... We started WORKING ON THINGS
The two months before when I decided I was going to DO this, I changed my cell number and blocked anyone that could be a hazard to my marriage. My friend that I talked to from the beginning, I cut him off completely. We still were JUST friends. I told him I wanted my marriage to work and I'd need to loose him and it was ok with him.
If I'm drinking, I don't make the best decisions. So i don't do it. My husband is 24 hours driving distance away from me. He will call maybe twice a day and he's usually busy or dosing off to sleep. I swallowed that.
He goes out to dinner w his co workers for 3 hours and refusing any contact with me during that IMPORTANT time. Last week he WAS texting me during, mad about having to stay in contact w me... Being hateful. I woke up w no further messages from him. So curious me, "if he's not talking to me, who IS he talking to" I checked his phone bill and SHE had wrote him, and he wrote he back then she wrote again twice. I called as soon as I found that out and he apologized for being so hateful... He admitted to talking to her and blamed it on the alcohol. We both have iphones so i requested a screenshot of the convo... He stopped talking to me for the entire day. I texted her and asked if shed please quit contacting him & she turned around and texted him anyways. A screen shot of what i had just wrote her.... Or thats what he said! I informed him we really shouldnt drink without each other bc of our poor decision making. I forgave him...
Last Saturday I had a wedding party with my gf. Talked to him at 5pm, and then he never called or texted or checked on me until he woke up at 8am the next morning and he had got wasted. 24 hours away from me.... Set really wrong with me. Getting ready for church on mothers day and THiS! :(
I've sent life changing scriptures to him. I've showed him how we are working and how we're about to not be. He informed me that all his emotions arent going to just go back, that he wants his family but he wint be putting in the 110% that I was going to have to settle with what I was getting from him or move on. I showed him how to be a man of god and how he isn't honoring me as his wife. (although that's not me being a submissive wife, I DON'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO) I sent him videos and everything he'd need to see he's going the wrong way. He told me that all this was the way I wanted him to live, and that there are a lot of walks with God. True. But My God, there is one. & it's HIS way or the wrong way....
I do not want to get a divorce because it's a sin. I am trying so hard to fight for this. Maybe its a trial sent by God. I want to be a woman of god, and to have everlasting life with him. I want to do all I do for My God! I want my husband to do it too. We both have messed up our marriage, I've been saved and I'm working on my life living by the book. He is a believer but he lacks knowledge and hes slapping it like a fly every time I try to give him knowledge.
He's abandoned our marriage at this point and in Gods eyes that's grounds for divorce....
He tried to ask me about my day today out of no where, trying to brush THIS under the rug like he did when he talked to the girl that he slept w while we were married... I simply asked, so that we could move on, if he'd try to care & if he please wouldn't do the things he knew bothered me out of honor. I never heard back from him & that was about 3pm.
Do I leave? Give up and let him fight on his own. Never do I know when he's just going to give up on me again... He says he's forgiven me but we could actually move on if he had....
Do I stay and no matter how exhausted, lonely, depressed, upset, angry, hurt, I get... I'm doing this for my family & obeying my God....
If you have the answer, PLEASE, tell me what it is. I need a direction to go in....

None of us have the answer.

Seek guidance from Yahvah God in the name of our Messiah Yahshua.

You can not change your husband, but you can let the Holy Spirit be your guide and strength.

From experience the more you desire the person to please you by being how you want them to be, the more sad and disappointed you will be with them.

Pray your husband will come to please Yahvah God and accept salvation through Yahshua the Messiah.

Wow, Viva, that's a lot of history! I'm sorry for the way you feel now, and I wish I had a "magic bullet".

You mentioned a church...perhaps seeing the pastor would be a place to start? You really cannot change your husband. We can't even change ourselves; that's God's job, and no one else could do it, or do it better. :)

Just understand this will take t-i-m-e. I really appreciate your desire to honor your marriage vows, and give your little girl a good life. I think you're taking some good steps (not drinking, not speaking to the male friend, etc.). These are decisions you made for yourself, and they would have to be things your husband chooses because he wants to, also. I've found in my 32 yrs with my husband that the more expectations I had for him, the worse things got.
My dad, bless him, used to say marriage is NOT a 50/50 proposition. you go in expecting to give 100% and get nothing. (best pre-wedding advice I ever got) Because the expectations will hurt a marriage.
Not to say both parties don't have obligations...I hope you can see what I mean. :/

I will pray for you, and I hope you can find a mature Christian ( again, maybe at church?) with whom to speak in person. Counseling together is always best, but I believe this would be a good first step, as I said.

I know it sounds trite, but God has a plan for you! He loves your little family! I'm so glad you asked Jesus to be your Savior (angels rejoice!); learning to walk with Him takes a lifetime, and He is faithful, always!! :)

You will be in my prayers- I hope you'll let us know how you're doing. <3

Thank you paycomom!! I just love your daddys advice. I have recently learned not to expect anything, from ANYONE. I do agree we have obligations though....
I know God has something great in store for me and I cannot wait! My church refers me to counselors and WE went before we ever started working on things (about 5 months ago)
And the counselor wasn't faith based and we had to pay for it. My marriage is priceless so we didn't mind. We just walked away with nothing in hand and my heart was broke just a little bit more. I want it and he did not.
I still havent talked to him since yesterday about 3pm bc I wanted to get over our disagreement.
We need the prayers, all the prayers in the world. If nothing else come out of this MASSIVE trial I'm facing, AT LEAST, maybe he can know the lord like I do. These past couple days I HAVE regressed not because I'm turning away from God, but because I honestly don't know what else TO DO!
This is the texts I woke up to yesterday morning, "I am reading your messages. Sorry I fell asleep.
You don't understand how hard it is from my end to try n move past what you've done. U can say u do but u dont. We arent the same ppl we handle stuff differently we bring different things to the table. And for me being the one that provides your living and has for quite some time now and for all this to happen then want to continue to do what I've done in the past is not an easy task. U took everything for granted an try to throw it all away. Now u expect me to just forget it all from the past and if I make the walk w Christ that u want me to walk it will all be just fine! There are alot of different walks w christ bc there alot of different ppl out there. I know god and he is in my heart and has been for a very long time. I have been going to church since i was really young. I have made mistakes along the way but I never forgot who or where he is. So I dont need your preaching on how I should live your kind of life. I have put all this in his hands and it's not black n white but I do believe he is showing me. I'm not able to give u a 110% bc I can't just forget what u have done and caused. I know I've done what I've done and u have handled it your way. And it's not the same way I can handle it.
You have really came along way thru all this and I am proud of u. But u need stop trying to force me into doing it your way. I know my god and I don't need to follow a huge crowd to know him. Now I do love u and I want our angel to have everything she deserves but it's really hard to out run the past now. U can either give me the time to deal w this and get over this and it's not going to b over night or u can keep hounding me and pressuring me to do it your way and keep creating more space between an already big gap. There r no guarantees that we will end up together but the way we r headed there is no chance. I'm not acting single or doin anything crazy up here just trying to work hard and get myself back in tx. I work out every chance I get and every now then I go w the guys and hang out. I don't drink a bunch bc it kinda ruins my hard work I out in at the gym."
What do we think about this? Where is his heart? Does he have potential?
I believe with some knowledge, HE could be the leader of my family, he could lead us to God, be a MAN of GOD, and then meet us in heaven! I believe in him that much...
I'm just unsure of the steps I need to take to get there. He lives SOOO far away, and still, I wait for him to pursue me unless I need something.
I'm not perfect and I have a lot of growing in my faith, in life, in my marriage that I need to do. I feel like my marriage is holding me back right now because it's taking SO MUCH out of me.

I don't know who the "Yahvah God" is or the "Yashua Messiah"... Is that part of the trinity because I believe in Jesus. He was the sinless man who died a brutal death for MY SINS so that I can have everlasting life, yup! That's my man!!! ;)

I do need to give it up to my Savior, I will be obligated to make SOME actions in the flesh so I need help looking in from another window. Maybe I'm wrong for the way Im going about it... I'm out of ideas though.

hi Viva
Ok, i admit, i have not read the whole things. Its 1030AM and i haven't been to bed, so yeah, i won't be reading anything that long right now haha. I did read a little of the beginning though and would like to share my thoughts on the first few lines. See this as me trying to help you see the mistakes you made so that you can learn, not as an attack or insult.
So just two weeks before your marriage your fiance dumps you. We're not talking got nervous, had doubts, needed a day. We're talking ended the relationship for a whole month. That right there should have been a huge red flag about this guy to you when he came crawling back. Now here's your mistake.. you take a guy who just showed a total lack of commitment to you, and your child, by ditching you, and then telling him he has to marry you if he wants anything to do with you. Its a sort of blackmail. You pressured an untrustworthy guy into marrying you.

Hint one that indicates why your marriage would end up poorly. The father of your child leaves you both at essentially the last minute before your wedding.
Hint two that indicates why your marriage would end up poorly. You took him back with no consequence to him, no counseling to find out why.
Hint three that indicates why your marriage would end up poorly. You essentially blackmailed him into marriage. That did three things...
One, probably had somewhat of a negative effect on his masculinity.
Two, likely created a sense of resentment towards you for forcing him into the marriage.
Three, you made the marriage all about you, your standards, your demands, and you had all the power.

All i needed to hear were those first few lines to draw these conclusions. Obviously nothing here is going to lend itself to a happy marriage. I know it may not be the kind of advice you came on looking for, but but if you're willing to be honest with yourself you will see it is still good to hear and learn.

Hey Ugly, ;(
(I don't like writing that)
Thank you for your bright observations, I do appreciate it. You will love the rest of that forum bc it only gets better. :( At my expense.
My daughter is SO worth her mommy and daddy. He proposed, I excepted, I planned a wedding, but it was too soon.... I will take full responsibility for THAT!
I was actually looking for some guidance on my current situation because I cannot change the past. I have such an amazing life that a lot of people could only dream of. So this could be my punishment for that.

I am glad you want to save your marriage. That is the good fruit of Christianity. I would consell you to pray for your marriage and put it in Jesus' hands. Your daughter would probably love to have both her parents. But if things do not work out you can get a divorce because your husband cheated on you. MATTHEW 5:31-32 Being cheated on is the only thing God allows divorce for.

Thank you Jonathan! But, I also cheated on him while we were going through the divorce process. I was the one who had the emotional relationship that blew up, he had one too but the fingers were being pointed at me at that moment... It wasn't until after he slept with his girl that I slept with my boyfriend. (I'm sure the timing doesn't matter) I have seen somewhere that he allows divorce for abandonment too. He has COMPLETELY emotionally left the relationship. If that's the case then God has made it very clear that he has a better plan for my daughter & I.

Actually, it seems like you have both been unfaithful to each other. First your 'emotional' boyfriend which lead to him sleeping with his gf, which lead to you sleeping with yours. This is adultery, and this is a sin in God's eyes. No matter who started it, it doesn't give the other person the right to do the same back. In a loving relationship, this would not happen.
I know you are trying to save the marriage for your girl, and to not divorce, but in God's eyes, if this guy is causing you to feel like you need someone else and being adulterous, is this right? Is divorcing him then the 'lesser of two evils'?
Because 1) this can't be happy situation for your daughter to grow up in, even if she has parents that are still together, if they are contantly fighting, if her dad is away a lot, if there is tension, if her mum is upset a lot.. this isn't a healthy environment for her to grow up in, no matter if she has a father and a mother. Maybe she'd have a better childhood with a good mum who is happy without worrying about her husband.
2) how do you honestly feel about hm sleeping with the girl, as a married man? He's meant to have one life partner- you. And he must feel the same about you. It's so hard to move on from it, some people do, but he's still keeping contact with her, and he doesnt seem dedicated to righting the situation.
3) There is a communication breakdown between you, you both see things very differently and have had counselling which hasn't improved your situation. there has been so much that has gone wrong, somewhere , there needs to be a line drawn.

I'm sorry but if I'm brutally honest, I know it's so hard and you have been through a lot (TOO much in my eyes), you have both commited adultery and therefore your marriage seems like it's condemned anyway, I'd divorce him.

I know you're looking for help in your current situation. But you never know what you can get to help you now, by observing your past mistakes. Maybe nothing in this case. Sorry i wasn't yet able to give you something more connected to your present request. Maybe i'll quit being lazy and read the whole thing haha. Hopefully others are being helpful as well. I know we have some good people on here.

Well to correct some things (not that it makes it THAT much better) we were both seperated when we had bf/gf's and had already filed for divorce.
We weren't aren't retaliating on each other we were pursuing our own wants and needs rather than putting God in front of every decision BUT we weren't living for christ at that point...
I didn't get saved until AFTER I decided to work on my marriage. He has yet to be saved but he's a believer.
We don't fight a lot and we are a happy couple, we're really best friends.
We HAVE been through a lot but I can't find it in my heart to give up. I'm waiting for him to do that. Our divorce has already been filed.
I can tell he's sincere when we talk.
& I really don't want to make a life changing decision based on people's opinions on my situation. I really want someone to just tell me what God would say to me. I want to live my life for him but ALL these mistakes were made before I lived for him.

Well, i think when people are giving you their responses that is them saying what they believe God would say to you.

But if you want to hear it more directly... the bible does state that if you are a believer, and married to a non-believer and the non-believer wants to divorce you, to let him go.

Yet if the unbelieving one leaves, let him leave; the brother or the sister is not under bondage in such cases, but God has called us to peace. For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife? 1 Corinthians 7:15-16

Divorce itself is not a sin, divorce outside of Gods standards is the sin. But if God warrants divorce under certain circumstances He's not warranting sin.

Oh that is good. :)
I am not meaning to be harsh when people respond. Not one bit. My situation is strange as a Christian, I think. & There IS so much to it!!!
Do you think that if I "let the non believer go" that he will have to pay for this? Am I?
We aren't continuing to sin. We are both trying to live like we're suppose to.
We both lacked knowledge about our religion when we got together. I try to keep him in tune on the things I've learned. Normally, he doesn't do anything with it IF he's even listening to me.
He HAS said that the things he does to be a man of god for your wife, that that's too much right now. Those feelings aren't there for him so I'd have to wait.
In the bible, is he still considered a "non-believer"?
Even though we have done the exact same things to each other, he makes me feel like he has it so bad and that I'm the worst person and what he did wasn't bad. What I did ruined it for us. The story's of the things that happened, he's blown them out of proportion. It's like he's taken what happened & then added a couple things and in turn it's worse on hisself because he believes those things. Make sense??

I don't work. I haven't worked since I was 6 months pregnant. I have nothing and no where to go. I have no clue how I'm going to divorce the man that's supported me for the past 4 years.

Your daughter would probably love to have both her parents. But if things do not work out you can get a divorce because your husband cheated on you. MATTHEW 5:31-32 Being cheated on is the only thing God allows divorce for.

Interesting that you seem to be fine with encouraging divorce here using that verse in Matthew, but in my threads you condemn me and tell me Christians cant divorce, even when all my facts were there INCLUDING the fact he was repeatedly unfaithful. I'm just a little confused. What gives you authority to pick and choose whom this verse applies to?

Sorry to derail your thread Viva, but I'm very interested to see Jonathon's answer.

My response to you Viva, is only that I have been through my own situation, and understand the difficulties you face in making such a decision. No one here has the answer, because none of us were walking in your shoes. None of us were IN YOUR MARRIAGE, so we only have the little bit of information you have given us. I would say first and foremost seek God. Find someone you can talk to, a counsellor, or your Pastor, and make sure you understand fully the potential outcomes which may arise from any decision you make. My situation was basically forced upon me, so I do understand it's certainly not an easy road to walk.

Good luck, and I'll be praying for you.
