The holidays are coming up, and I always make a point to look for kids' toys that encourage creativity and interaction. What are your favorite gifts for children? Here are a few of mine:

My kids love these blocks-

I also get these for my 3 year-old, and I let him draw *gasp* on the fridge with them (they clean up easily with a paper towel, though once in a while I use a magic eraser or windex). He's entertained, and he's getting to be creative, and he doesn't draw on the walls :D

My favourites were the LEGO & FUNSKOOL building toys. The toys that let you build things using blocks or using nuts and bolts. You won't believe but I used to play with those toys until I was 12 or something.

After I quit playing, I preserved the toys in a loft in my room. I gave them away only last month. :)

Playmobile!

and remember those brick blocks? cardboard things you have to assemble? (sigh)

our kids would fill the living room with that stuff, building a city...
and it had to be left there for days and days! :)

We have those cardboard blocks in our church nursery, psychomom. The kids LOVE them! Roh, I'm with you... Legos are just about the most perfect toy ever invented. You're never too old to play with Legos. Cris, I forgot about dry erase markers! My kids still play with those, and they are teenagers. :D

with 5 daughters, we had a play kitchen set in 4 pieces...
sink, stove, frig, cupboards. dishes and play food...the works.

my dad used to measure kids toys in beer. (forgive me if that offends anyone?)

a swingset that had to be assembled was a 6 pack job
and that metal play kitchen was a 'case job'.

any little (or big) musical instrument. :)

and books, books, books. ♥

Hobby lobby is a great resource for this! My son (7) loves snap circuits 2014-10-31-00-49-17--1874924867.jpeg

My daughter (4) loves to catch creepy crawlies, I got her this for Christmas bug_playground_main_image_1.jpg

My 45 year old son and his two teenage children have a foot locker full of LEGO blocks. They spend hours together building things. I'm always amazed at the outcome of their projects. I think that it is a much better way to build close relationships than playing video games.
