That's a powerful sociological/psychological principal. This is one technique that President FDR used to the advancement of their Satanic Marxist agenda.
Two brief examples:
1. Black culture had, (still does with sooo many), been known for strong value centered families. Bible was at the forefront. Now we see generational dependents to big get in the inner city projects.
2. Churches used to be independent from gt control. Now the pastors are scrutinized or feel that way to nullify their power.

I was listening to the whole interview in the background thinking the same thing.
He's interviewing this other writer on his Karl Marx biography.
Peterson keeps using 7 syllable adjectives for the Faust Character, that he's even having trouble pronouncing.
I just asked, why doesn't he just say the Devil or Satanic when he talks about Marx beliefs??

Far too many people think with emotions more than reason because reason takes more effort. Besides, victimhood also feeds into their fleshly greed to think that they're entitled to their neighbor's stuff and even their neighbor's wife...

Its hard to break someone of feeling "Owed". Ive seen it over and over even after they get saved. They begin to use people to get what they want from them then throw them away. The last three generations seem to feel owed.
What you've described is this modern tendency toward cultural and interpersonal Narcissism. It seems to be gaining in numbers as to how many people suffering from that malady who don't realize they are infected.
