Dad shoots laptop of rebellious daughter with his 45

The wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

What lasting lesson did he teach his daughter that she can carry into adulthood?

He acted recklessly and discharged a firearm within city limits. The Police have all the proof they need to place him under arrest.

I hope he learns a lesson from his lack of self control.
 
I don't agree with what the dad did, i mean really all he accomplished was creating fear, like now his daughter may listen to him but only cuz shes scared that if she doesnt he will blast apart more of her stuff...and im pretty sure she doesnt feel good towards her dad for what he did regardless of what she says...if anything shes just cooperating to avoid any more trouble...(i am making assumptions but they seem logical to me)...also this thing has gotten way out of hand with the publicity...and if you have to resort to blasting apart your child's laptop on youtube before they will listen to you then i say you need to work on your parenting skills, just sayin...
 
I am an American firearm owner. I own a 45 caliber Colt Commander pistol, a Mossberg 500 12 guage shotgun, etc.

This video is not, I repeat not an example of responsible gun use and ownership. This video is not an example of the way Christians deal with problems.

I realize that I have been labeled a "truth seeker" on this site, perhaps it is because I have a different way of thinking and am have my own way of seeing thing's.

Remember that those who live by the sword (or gun) will also perish but it. One day this man's unrestrained anger is going to get him in trouble.

Violence is never an effective way to deal with situations and it is always best to calm ones self before dealing with children.

Children don't always recall the things parents say, but they always recall, with accuracy, the way we live and the things we do.

As General George Patton once said, you are always on parade. General Patton was a brilliant military leader but he too was prone to outbursts of wrath.
If he heeded his own advise, it would have helped his military career a great deal.

The same can be said of our Christian walk, we have to live it daily.

Deal with Children with Love. Deal with firearms with respect and caution. Once a bullet leaves the barrel, you can't take it back.
 
For what it's worth guys, the local TV station news where he lives says there are no laws against what he did:

"Officials at the Stanly County Sheriff's Office said there are no laws against what Jordan did, so they will not be investigating the matter. " (Source is his local TV station news: YouTube dad says authorities pay visit; Daughter gets job offer | www.wsoctv.com )

It also said he lives outside the city limits. Also another source said he did it on his own six acres, and it does appear in the video that he's on some acreage.

He wasn't shooting it around her, and I actually thought he was pretty calm, considering all.

I heard more disappointment than anger in the dad's voice. And didn't he say he was disappointed (I didn't hear him say he was angry)?

Conclusion:

That family does not have Jesus...there's a problem, and He is the solution.

If you think the father was in the wrong, pray for him. And pray that he and his family finds Jesus.

(Also...the verse about sparing the rod spoils the child comes to mind.)
 
I agree with the dad it had happened before and she was grounded then as soon as she got it back she does this after he worked on it for her .. i have a 18 year old daughter that dropped out of school because of staying on face book and her boy friend and quit her job because she wanted to have more time with him and her laptop about 6 months ago i got to see what a 12 gauge would do to 1 but i didnt video it she still lives at home and does nothing .. so yeah i agree with him

I don't think I would say "...that family does not have Jesus..." because there simply isn't enough information. I also wouldn't say necessarily that they do, on the same premise, that we do not have enough information.
 
I don't see anything wrong with what he did. He bought it, he can do with his property as he sees fit. I think I would have had more fun with it though. Using bullets was not very exciting. I would have used a sledge hammer or blew it up with explosives =)

As far as how he handled it... how would you do it better?
 
Fireing a gun at a laptop? Sounds like soemthing a teen would do, NOT something done by a grown man for dicipline.

My thoughts precisely. However, he did state to his daughter that he would shoot her laptop if she carried on with her misbehavior. He did reinforce what he had stated. Unfortunately, at the expense of a laptop that could have been put to better use.
 
i already knew of one type of 'discipline' that sends a totally wrong message to a child...spanking...but this is even more insane...

she is a teenager...she is not going to heed the eight minute lecture...but she is definitely going to pick up on her father's advice for conflict resolution...which he transmitted loud and clear...

namely that if she is upset at someone it is appropriate to pick up a gun and start shooting...

sadly this probably won't be the last time you will see this family on the news...

spanking, when done wrong, does. Spanking, when done right, doesn't.

I don't really agree with this either...she might have been rebellious but I don't think she's incompetent. I think she has enough sense in her that you don't shoot people. I'm the same age as her...and I don't think that if my dad did that, I don't think I'd go pointing a gun at the next person I got mad at.

ALSO, the dad was not angry in the video. He did not do it in anger. He did not show anger. He showed a lot of disappointment and he was probably very upset, but not angry. There's a difference between angry and upset. So he didn't do it in anger.

And far as I can tell, he didn't do it in haste. And haste and anger go together like peanut butter and jelly for people a lot of times. He could have shot the laptop immediately after he saw her facebook post. He actually took TIME to make that video...

Anger in and of itself is not a problem.
 
You know what I've seen in the responses on the youtube video, most of the teens agree he was right in what he was doing. It seems that the majority who had a problem with what he did were the adults. Interesting. And even there, that seems to be a few, not the whole in general.

Even his daughter, from what I've read, said her dad did not go overboard.

Usually when someone is angry...I think of "rage"

I know being angry in and of itself is not a problem...God got angry with the Israelites alot in the Old Testament (I'm studying Judges right now...God was not a happy God during the times the Israelites turned away...and He punished them too.)

solving any problem with a gun seems like a bad idea to me....
I repeat what I said: he cold have taken it away, rather than using a firearm,
 
Bad idea. Shame and embarassment is not a valid method of discipline. Also, a gun should not be used in discipline. Someone said that the girl admits she was wrong, but honestly, does she feel she was wrong, or is she now too afraid to say how she truly feels. From the bit we see of him i get a sense of someone overbearing. You have to wonder, is she just a snotty teen, or is he doing something to drive her away?
And charging the girl for the cost of the bullets? Ridiculous. Personally i think the guys a bit off his rocker.
 
I saw this too a while ago. I don't think he was overreacting. She really made her parents sound like ignorant tyrants in her letter. Her chores werent impossible or hard to accomplish. I know many people think that the dad was wrong to so openly address the issue, but she embarassed her parents by writing that note on facebook and allowing all her friends to read it, so he had to do something publicly as well. I support him, he's a good parent in my opinion. Plus I like the part where he shoots the laptop with his 45 lol
