We have to stay connected to Jesus in order to do the Good Works we were call to do. We cannot run around like the Lone Ranger and expect the Good things God has called us to do just to happen. When we are not in contact with Jesus we have no Spiritual nourishment and we soon wither and dry up, good for nothing but fire wood. But if we stay connected to Jesus and follow His teachings we will produce much Good Fruit.

1 Jesus said, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.
2 He cuts off every branch of mine that does not produce fruit. He also trims every branch that produces fruit to prepare it to produce even more.
3 You have already been prepared to produce more fruit by the teaching I have given you.
4 Stay joined to me and I will stay joined to you. No branch can produce fruit alone. It must stay connected to the vine. It is the same with you. You cannot produce fruit alone. You must stay joined to me.

When I began to study the way God spoke to and trained the Hebrews before we had the Holy Spirit, I was impressed with how each thing they did daily was given a spiritual meaning. Food represented staying clean and living a life apart for God. Washing was associated with washing away sin. The third, sixth, and ninth hour of the day was associated with prayer time, and on and on it went.

Then there was a group of Hebrews that did these things without associating them with the way they were to truly live, so they became empty.

Now we say that if we do any of these things, we are denying the Holy Spirit and Christ. I see much of scripture, especially through Paul, speaking against this, but I can't find anyplace scripture says we can't use these helps. Yet, the church would be up in arms, calling it Judaism. Saying it is trying to artificially be Jews. I do not understand. Why can't we let our minds associate what we do in our days with how God wants us to live?
