OK people how many times at some churches do you see the same people over and over again come to the altar for prayer and put on a real show on receiving the power of the Holy Spirit on them. They may shake and jolt like fire or lighten has hit them, then they recover and the people assigned to catch them have to follow and chase them all around the altar. Remember when we were kids and the bad guy would shoot us and it would take minutes to stumble around before we fell, that is what some altars look like today. You might say pastor you are really being mean there making fun of the Power of God. My statement to you is how come God doesn't move in more Peoples lives like that. It seems to be the same people over and over again each Sunday drawing attention to themselves, not letting God get His Glory.

16-18 “When you practice some appetite-denying discipline to better concentrate on God, don’t make a production out of it. It might turn you into a small-time celebrity but it won’t make you a saint. If you ‘go into training’ inwardly, act normal outwardly. Shampoo and comb your hair, brush your teeth, wash your face. God doesn’t require attention-getting devices. He won’t overlook what you are doing; he’ll reward you well.
Matthew 6: 16-18 The Message Bible.

Maybe this all stems from unbiblical practices mixed with social dynamics that pressure people into thinking they must demonstrate said unbiblical practice in the first place?

Maybe sanctification is a long drawn out process and doesn't happen in a once and for all "break through" zap from above during a highly emotionally charged altar event.
