When we accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior, our Spirit was saved but we still are living inside our Flesh Suit. Our flesh is very week and we need help from God by Him placing His Holy Spirit in us. When we have fleshy thoughts, and we will, they don't become sin yet. Its what we do about those thoughts that counts. If take those thoughts and think about them and then do what our flesh wants then they become sin. But is we ask Jesus to help us with those thoughts and cover them with the Blood of Jesus, we have overcome that thought and did not sin. A bad thought is not sin, the way we deal with that thought is what counts. It could be a victory, or a defeat. It is up to us let the Holy Spirit lead us.

8-10 If we claim that we’re free of sin, we’re only fooling ourselves. A claim like that is errant nonsense. On the other hand, if we admit our sins—make a clean breast of them—he won’t let us down; he’ll be true to himself. He’ll forgive our sins and purge us of all wrongdoing. If we claim that we've never sinned, we out-and-out contradict God—make a liar out of him. A claim like that only shows off our ignorance of God.
