Hi,
I'm curious to see what constitutes as valid love for different people. I'm meaning for this post to deal with "romantic" love rather than platonic or spiritual, but I'd be delighted to hear views on those as well.

The definition of love for me, is when someone makes the decision to love you and not only says i love you, but shows it in action as well. Those words are meaningless without the action behind them.

But what sort of action would indicate someone's love for you? Would it be a kiss? An act of chivalry? A kind/longing look?

Love is wanting and doing the highest, best "good" for someone even if it comes at great cost to yourself.

You can have feelings of infatuation or or physical actions for/with someone and it be totally for your own gratification - that is not love.

thats perfect......... thats what i wanted to convey, but i couldnt figure out the words

Read 1Cor 13 it tells you what love is and shows you what it's not.

Well i define romatic love as being "in love" wiht someone. Otherwise when I say I love someone who im not with I am refering to a platonic sense. I really do love all my friends, they are there for me, and care about me. When it comes to romantic love, i guess i struggle to define that right now, I thought I was in love once but don't think I was. I do believe its that you care about the person, want to be with them, and put their needs ahead of your own, and vice versa it can't go one way.

love does not have a definition,it works in different way for every one, love can not be teach,or discrive in word, i know that Paul says what love is,just to give u an idea of what love is,but if u do not have an experience with love u will never know what love is, word are not able to discrive it.

well for me love is a lot things... it´s giving and sharing and being pacient... it´s closing your mouth even when you´re right... love is a reat desicion, some times it´s more easy to love and some times it´s not, but the important is that we continue to love even when it hurts. Ofcourse the greatest love ever is the one the Fathes has for us all!!!

I have heard that love is seeking the highest and best interest of the other, spiritually, mentally, physically, in whatever way you can understand.

If you are able in the bible it has alot of definitions of love.

Some believe that everyone and everything is fulfilling love, but it doesn't seem that way to me

"Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails." 1 Corinthians 13:4-8

"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love." 1 John 4:18

Hi,

Romantic love, eros, is a me-centered love. It is based solely on what others can do for you. It is love of the worthy, attractive, and beautiful. If I deem something worthy, attractive, or beautiful enough it can receive my eros.

Eros is easily lost because it is partly wrapped up in the thrill of the chase. Once you achieve/win the thing you're chasing it is less attractive.

Since eros is based solely in emotions, it comes and goes just like any other emotion. This makes it extremely fickle and unreliable.

Examples of eros in the bible would be Samson and Delilah, Tamar and Abnon (Abnon being the one who was "in love"). You will notice both of these instances were negative, and lead to dire consequences. When people allow themselves to be controlled by eros they can quite often end up in bad situations. While eros is not bad, you should not allow yourself to be ruled by it. Instead, through the perfecting works of God, your eros can be used to make relationships better.
