If we were absolutely right with God, His path would give us more adventure than we would ever want. We wouldn't desire escape. Our peace would make us feel relaxed, and our comfort would be found in the shadow of His wings as in Psalm 17:8. The truth is we need to draw nearer to God to receive those things. As we work on our relationship with the Lord, we can still refrain from our addiction. You might find it easier to substitute some replacements for your current addiction.
The next time you desire adventure, escape, relaxation, or comfort...try one of these:
- Take a bath.
- Go for a walk.
- Ask someone you like on a date (if you are single). If you are married, invite a couple you recently met to dinner or a new friend over for to watch a rented movie.
- Read a book or the Good Book.
- Work on your hobby or take up a new one.
- Write, draw, or make music.
- Take a hike.
- Go to a park, sit on a blanket, and enjoy God's creation.
- Adopt a pet.
- List your dreams or goals and take the first step.
- Do something unexpected for someone else.
- Confront yourself and tell yourself you don't necessarily need to be comfortable to be happy. In fact, you could be stubborn and sit on the floor or make yourself more uncomfortable so your flesh will get aligned with your soul.

Take the first step, and the Lord will meet you more than halfway. He will give you the strength when He sees you are serious about giving it up and not just talking about it. God wants to become our refuge. Let's stop running to these silly addictions, and let God love us.
