They certainly invest heavily into an interpretation of scripture that is not necessarily true.
Most major Christian denominations get a few things right. Where it normally gets weird are in the tertiary doctrines. Yes, the Catholics do teach a variety of unbiblical doctrines, though.

i can prove otherwise. I used to study this kind of thing in-depth.. have retained a lot of what I learned.
wel, that depends on whether you mean by "the Church"... the members thereof or the crooked clergy (not all are crooked of course)
We the People in the Catholic Church often.. and I mean OFTEN .. have a very different view of things than the clergy.
Apparently, according to the Catholic newspaper, the Wanderer, one US bishop is supposed to claimed that 80% of his income came from the federal govt!

I -- unlike most Protestants, certainly all the ones I have encountered-- have studied this. I kno the teachings.. i have read the entire Bible and am starting on a 2nd reading through. The Bible is a Catholic document, given to the world by the Catholic Church Christ founded. Catholic doctrines, dogmas and Traditions can be found throughout the Bible. It was the Catholic Church that protected the Scriptures through the centuries..

I am entirely opposed to Catholicism and think we would be better off being a more Protestant country. But we are a couple centuries away from re-litigating state Catholicism vs. state Protestantism.

A 50 year AOG preacher told me once that he was greatful to the RCC for keeping the miraculous alive during the dark ages. Im greatful myself for the Catholic organization Hospice. For those who donr know, its an end of life care facility and they were very caring for my late wife. I dont believe a lot of what they teach but they dont get everything wrong.

The bread and wine in communion is not the literal flesh and blood of Jesus. They baked that bread and fermented that wine using grapes. Communion is a memorial service done in remembrance of Jesus that involves food. There are other examples in the Bible of communion and Paul refers to it as food in 1 Corinthians 11:17-34.
The bread and drink Jesus refered to is spiritually symbolic.

Have you not read in the book of 1st John 4:1-3?
It is written, "every spirit that confesseth Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God. And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God..."
I would like you to note, scripture does not say, has come, but "is come", as in, already and presently here in the flesh.
And have you not also read in Matthew 18:20 saying, "for where two or three are gathered together in my name there I am in their midst"?
And have you not read in John 1:14, where it says,"and the word of God was made flesh..."?
And what Jesus said in Matthew 19:5-8 saying, "and they two shall be one flesh. So they are no longer two, but one flesh."
And have you also not read where Jesus says, "for as much as you have done it to the least of these, you have done it unto me"?
How is it that when something is done to our body or our flesh it is done to both his body and his flesh as well.
And have you not read, how we are part of the body of Christ, here on Earth?
How can we presently be in the body of Christ when we are here on Earth? Unless the body of Christ along with a flesh, is presently here on Earth.
And the very scripture you used in 1st Corinthians 11:17-34, to prove your point, actually proves the contrary.
Jesus himself said, "this IS my body..."
He did not say it represents his body, even though we are to do it in remembrance of him, it still is his body according to the word of God, which is here on Earth.
And in verse 27 it talks about being guilty of both the body and blood of Christ, if we eat and drink unworthily. How can we be guilty of crucifying Christ, if the bread and wine is not his flesh and blood respectively?
Think about it for a minute. What if I were to mutilate or throw a regular piece of bread on the floor stomp on it and dump wine down a toilet, would I be guilty of crucifying Christ? The answer to that would be an obvious, and resounding, NO.
Why? Because it is not the body and blood of Christ. And we will not suffer any punishment for it either, like we would if we are taking communion.
Remember, that was the very reason why many were sick, weak, and dead.
Communion is only for believers. Real believers. Those who take communion in an unworthy manner bring judgement on themselves. In the church, this means looking down on Christians less fortunate. The world should not even be in Christian meetings, apart from those dedicated to evangelism.
Catholic communion is not the real thing anyway. Only the clergy can take the wine, which is an insult to Lord Jesus.
1 Corinthians 11:17-32
In the following instructions I have no praise to offer, because your gatherings do more harm than good. First of all, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it. And indeed, there must be differences among you to show which of you are approved.
Now then, when you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat. For as you eat, each of you goes ahead without sharing his meal. While one remains hungry, another gets drunk. Don’t you have your own homes in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What can I say to you? Shall I praise you for this? No, I will not!
For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.
Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. Each one must examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.
Now if we judged ourselves properly, we would not come under judgment. But when we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.
