So what does the bible actually say about depression. Is it a sin to be depressed? Take anti-depressants? Take your own life? Or is that just peoples opinions.

The YouTube algorithm brought up a video in my feed titled You're Not Depressed, You're a Prophet. An excerpt from it related the account of Elijah, who came to a point that he wished that God would take his life, and God sent ravens to feed and strengthen him. And then there's the beatitude, "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted (Matt 5:4). There's godly sorrow, which leads back to God, and salvation, but worldly sorrow leads to despair. The former seeks and finds comfort in God, but the latter cannot be comforted because it attributes the sorrow as coming from God and seeks, but cannot find, its comfort in the world which is the source of it.
Depression is a serious condition, one to be very concerned about. Most depression is caused by brain chemistry out of whack. Anti-depressants rectify this problem. It is not a sin to be depressed or wrong to take medication for it.
I have suffered, off and on, from major depression for more than 30 years now. In fact, I have just got over recent episode.
So, if it is you that is depressed, I understand. Please get medical help, especially if you are having suicidal thoughts.
No matter how bad it is now, it WILL pass.

When we are depressed, or when our souls feel cast down, it is usually due to a lack of hope for the future. For example, David prayed:
Psa 42:5
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.
Psa 42:11
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
Psa 43:5
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
Ultimately, we need to have a hope for eternal life in the kingdom to come, and that hope can only be found in Christ. There is a hope for this life as well, and that is directly related to trusting in God in all situations that we face. David said:
Psa 27:13
I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.
If you are a Christian, then God loves you with the same love wherewith he loves Jesus, John 17:23, 26. Continue to cry out to him as his daughter, and he will manifest that love towards you while giving you hope for this life and the one to come.
Rom 8:32
He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Rom 8:33
Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.
Rom 8:34
Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
Rom 8:35
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
