Deep dive into the abyss
Descent to the darkest places
Dusty figures in sunken wax cabinets
Gruesome horror on real human faces

The fragile sound of crushing bone
When the innocent are attacked
Soon passing by another millstone
With another body self-attached

What's a little genocide among brothers
If it gives you a kingdom of your own
Are you really here to serve others
If others don't serve your renown

Mankind creates instruments of destruction
To feed the shadow of its growing doubt
Stubbornly locking its torture chambers
No longer knowing which side is in or out

Sons of Adam burning with greed
Eager to get drunk of the forbidden wine
Intent on turning mere five degrees
Wrong direction for thirty-sixth time

Daughters of Eve in sin begetting
Headlong to the early bed of dust
Deception of self and others besetting
Bringing convenient lie to the lust

This is the world for which Christ came
As he stepped down from his throne to dive deep
To save the sinking ones drowning in shame
Breaking chains in depths where the hopeless weep

As the one who himself was wholly blameless
His cup could contain all our blame
In self-surrender of holy to the shameless
He became the covering for all our shame

Streams of evil as if light made of darkness
Flowed from every place and time to the cross
Absorbing iniquity in the moment of chaos
Defeat became victory and gain throug the loss

Turning the bitter waters of worst wickedness
Into the sweet wine of greatest redemption
He made a sign of peace and forgiveness
Of an instrument of torture and destruction

Again one of those poems that go dark before finding light in Christ. Perhaps this is not the perfect timing for this poem. It would have been more appropriate for Good Fiday than Christmas, but I wanted to post one more poem before Christmas, and this one was nearest to completion.

I really enjoy this work, I think it is one of your best. Dark at first, yes but true throughout.

Wash me and I shall be whiter than snow,
Purge me and clean I shall be.
Lord make me hear of Thy gladness and joy,
Then shall my bones sing to Thee, O Lord,
Then shall my bones sing to Thee.

Lord, from my sin hide Thy pure, holy face;
Blot out mine ungodliness.
Make me a clean heart, my spirit renew!
Fill it with Thy righteousness, O Lord,
Fill it with Thy righteousness.

Lord, keep me near to Thy presence, Thine heart,
Love and protect me alway;
O how I need Thee by day and by night!
Take not Thy Spirit away, O Lord,
Take not Thy Spirit away.

O how I long for that wonderful Joy,
Lord, please restore it to me;
Joy of salvation, the Joy of my soul!
Uphold with Thy Spirit free, O Lord,
Uphold with Thy Spirit free.
This is one I wrote when I was 13 or 14, it's based off Psalm 51:7-12

I wish i had known God in the way you did when i was 13.

He had to hit me over the head by telling me that He loved and I loved Him a year and a half ago. 75 coming up soon! Better late than never. I was a hard case?

That was really good.

I like the contrast between darkness and light. It's often difficult to realize how amazing God's grace really is, but showing it in contrast to this world's disgraceful darkness really helps to bring it to light.

This heart cry of yours (and David) reminds me of a verse in this psalm that you didn't allude to:

Psalm 51:17
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

As i said to you once before, you certainly seem to be headed down the right path in life. Stay the course.

Some of the OP's poem reminds me of a favorite song of mine as a kid. Took a lot of years to find out my condition was pretty bad.
Those who are today abiding by these impulses of self-destruction seem to be under the influence of an ever more insidious type of environment. Reading this verse in Matthew is something to consider.

Matthew 24:38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,

Sounds as though the days just before the flood were rather celebratory rather than dark and to me that is a very clever deception. Does not sound self-destructive at all. And it seems that this may also be the situation in the world just prior to the 2nd Advent.

I woke up this mornin' with the sundown shinin' in
I found my mind in a brown paper bag within
I tripped on a cloud and fell-a eight miles high
I tore my mind on a jagged sky
I just dropped in to see what condition, my condition was in
(Yeah, yeah, oh-yeah, what condition, my condition was in)

I pushed my soul in a deep dark hole and then I followed it in
I watched myself crawlin' out as I was a-crawlin' in
I got up so tight I couldn't unwind
I saw so much I broke my mind
I just dropped in to see what condition, my condition was in
Psychodelic guitar, instrumental break
(Yeah, yeah, oh-yeah, what condition my, condition was in)

Someone painted "April Fool" in big black letters on a "Dead End"sign
I had my foot on the gas as I left the road and blew out my mind
Eight miles outta Memphis and I got no spare
Eight miles straight up downtown somewhere
I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in
I said I just dropped in to see what condition, my condition wasin
Yeah yeah oh-yeah.
