Trump details plans to turn US economy around: 'We might as well be the leader' (msn.com)
Here's what I can glean from these 'details'.
That article starts off with this claim of what it's going to be about:
"Now, he’s detailing specific policy moves he’d make to take the pressure off Americans’ pocketbooks."
The GOP contender says: "We're going to take care of Social Security. We're not going to do anything to hurt our seniors,"
Ok. First detail. Social Security is safe. There are no plans to do anything to hurt seniors.
Then he does his usual fluff work: "There is so much cutting. There is so much waste in this government. There's so much fat in this government."
There is so much cutting. So much waste. So much fat.
I'm not sure I see any detail in that concerning his plan to 'do' anything. I think everyone would agree that our government spending has waste and fat. I just haven't found that just naming it, fixes it.
The former president also doubled down on tax-free tipped wages – which has garnered support from industry giants like restaurateur Jon Taffer – claiming it will be an official line item.
Alright, there we go. Some meat. Detail number 2: no taxes for tips.
Honestly, I don't know why tipping income is any different than wage income. Especially in the restaurant business because that's always been an out for those businesses to not pay a fair wage and so people tip to make up the shortage that their employer gets away with. The rest of us just make a decent hourly wage and have to pay taxes on it.
"I gave the biggest tax cut ever, bigger than the Reagan tax cuts. But you know what happened? It was very interesting, where we took in more revenue with a smaller percentage of taxes than we did with the big percentage of taxes, and nobody understood it,"
This, of course is not true and never has been, despite his continued repeating of it. And he really believes of himself that he configured a plan of action that brought about an effect... and nobody understood it. But is there a detail of his future plans there? Is he committing to more tax cuts?
"But when we cut taxes, we took in much more money. The country made more money and we were getting ready for growth," he added. "We were getting ready to pay off debt. We were going to drill, baby, drill."
Didn't he cut taxes in the beginning of his term? Didn't the country then shortly thereafter go through a disastrous pandemic. The country borrowed more money to pay corporations to keep people on their payrolls. The government wrote checks to everybody to help them over the disastrous effects of the pandemic and the debt went through the roof! And just how close are you to paying down debt when your last year in office saw an increase in that debt of over $4T. Is there a detail concerning his plan in this?
He is then apparently for EVs, but doesn't think we have the infrastructure yet, which I would agree, but then just says that we should have exactly what we have. ICE, Hybrid and Electric cars. But he allows that the electric segment should be smaller. So, the detail is that he is going to be pushing for all three types of cars to be built.
Then, of course, he wants tariffs and he still hasn't figured out that tariffs cost us. Yes, the manufacturers of the nations that we charge tariffs against do pay the money of the tariff, or the distributor that is buying the goods, but it all goes into the retail cost that is going to be charged the consumer... you!!! I think that he thinks, like when he told us that Mexico is going to pay for the wall, that we can have a taxation system where foreign businesses pay all of the money to run the country. Americans don't have to pay any taxes, we'll just charge foreign manufacturers enough to do business here that it will pay to run the nation.
He’d consider putting a reciprocal tariff on "any country that mistreats us."
