====== Wall ======

The meaning of wall (and fences, as they go together) is a barrier around an inhabited area that is lifted up or built against somebody or something with a desire to separate; it is not naturally found. Therefore it involves **works**, and is also an element of **war**. When things are summed up, there are just two cities, two dwelling places in the Bible - the city of blessed people and the city of evil people, and two walls or fences resting accordingly around them. One is between men of God (Jerusalem) and evil, and another is between evil men (Jericho/Babylon/Jerusalem in rebellion) and God.

It represents defense in warfare, both physical and spiritual: the words fence and defense are closely related. Jer 15:20 "And I will make thee unto this people a fenced brasen wall: and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee (...)"

The Bible gives us a hint about the nature of negative fences in some verses, such as Is 49:16: "Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me." The walls are set around the hearts, and it is a perpetual, demonically driven rejection of God's love. It could be interpreted twofold though, as in that God will defend and protect His chosen that He died for. But here the walls are surely of godless kind: Dt 28:52 "And he shall besiege thee in all thy gates, until thy high and fenced walls come down, wherein thou trustedst". The trust in humanity and human works is opposed to trusting in God.

As a wall has vertical structure, these walls represent something that lifts itself up against God or works of men piled up, alike the tower of Babel. The heights of the wall speak of human pride. But God is able to reverse this condition of mankind and He conquered the city of Jericho with its previously invincible walls, so we may know and rest in the promise that the Messiah would overcome against the demonic. Other elements besides fences that are involved into these walls are bars and gates, describing the determination of these people to reject God.

Some walls mentioned in the Bible mean building up and restoration - the works of God. These are the walls of the new, redeemed Jerusalem, spiritual place where born-again person is moved to when accepting God. The God-built walls protect us from destruction. Ez 36:33 "Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day that I shall have cleansed you from all your iniquities I will also cause you to dwell in the cities, and the wastes shall be builded (...) And they shall say, This land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are become fenced, and are inhabited." Desolation and ruin marks the previous demonic presence, or absence of Life. Inhabited here means that the Spirit of God lives inside, and that this is the people who were dead, but are now living.

Soul....are you getting this out of a specific book? Or article? If so, what? Good stuff here.
